Obituary of Peter Romagna

Peter P. Romagna passed away at his home after a long illness on Wednesday night, July 13, 2011. He was 89 years old. Peter was born at the family homestead in Cambridge in 1921. He was the son of Italian immigrants, the late Andrea and Alphonsina Romagna. He spent 70 years living in the same home in East Cambridge. He was a graduate of Rindge Technical School. He then enlisted in the US Army to fight in WW II. He saw combat at Guadacanal and the Northern Solomons. He was the recipient of the Good Conduct Medal, American Defense Service Medal, and the Asiatic Pacific Theater Combat Ribbon. He was a talented musician and was a member of the 1st Combat Infantry Army Band. He returned home and married his sweat heart, Louise G. Christopher on April 29, 1945. He worked full time, went to Northeastern University at night, and became a father all at the same time. Peter worked for over 40 years at Sears in Alston as a service supervisor. He also was a professional musician, playing the trumpet and the French horn. Peter loved solving problems, building, and repairing everything. He wasn’t afraid to tackle any project from automotive repairs, cabinet making, crafts, stonewalls, and any other household project he encountered. He was a fan of baseball, football and horse racing. Most of all he enjoyed being with his family. He was a loving and devoted husband for 66 years. He was a caring and proud father, encouraging his children to strive and succeed, supporting in their education and business ventures, and always present for guidance, advice, and a helping hand. He loved being a grandfather. Peter was the beloved husband of Louise G. (Christopher) Romagna of Burlington. He was the loving father of Andrea McCarthy & her husband Frank of Lexington, Gary & his wife Connie of Burlington, and the late Robert. He was a proud grandfather of Christopher, Peter, Gregory & Daniel Romagna and Lia McCarthy. He was the brother of Dora Sateriale of Stoneham, Laura Serena of Malden, the late Lena Barker, and Hugo Romagna. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, July 16 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Friday from 4-8 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
