Obituary of Gerald Connors
Gerald “Jerry” Connors, a retired Senior Loan Officer and Executive Vice President of the Woburn National Bank, passed away after a long illness at the Kindred Hospital in Boston on Tuesday morning, July 26, 2011. He was 87 years old. Jerry was born in Somerrville, the son of Irish immigrants, the late Michael and Julia Connors. The family moved to Burlington, which at the time was a small farming community. He grew up and was educated in Burlington. He went onto to fight in the World War II serving in the Navy. After the war, he went to Bentley College in Boston nights. He worked at a number of Banking Institutions, before joining the Woburn National Bank in 1963. Jerry’s outgoing persona and warmth made him well respected with both his clients as well as his colleagues. He worked his way up the ladder until his retirement in 1990, where he held the position of Senior Loan Officer and Executive Vice President.
Jerry was active in his community. He was a member of the Woburn Elks, he was a coach for the Woburn Little League and Pop Warner. He was also a member of the Woburn Chamber of Commerce. In his leisure time, he enjoyed golfing and was a member of the Woburn Country Club. He enjoyed a good game of horse shoes as well. He enjoyed spending his winters with his wife Dorothy of 57 years in Naples Florida. He loved his Irish heritage and spending times with his family. Jerry enjoyed life, worked hard for his customers, and was devoted to his family.
Jerry was the father of Gerald “Jerry” J. Connors, Jr. and his soul mate Angelique Le & her son Griffith Tran, Robert Connors & his wife Kathy of Woburn and Newbury, and the late Donald Connors. He was the brother of Patricia Litchfield, Mary Langone, and Michael Connors all of Burlington, the late Nancy Donahue, Julia Farrell, Veronica Eagan, John and Donald Connors. He was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, July 29 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Anthony’s Church, 851 Main St., Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Memorials in Jerry’s name may be made to Woburn Senior Center, 144 School Street, Woburn, MA 01801.
