Obituary of Frank Gatheral
Frank Gatheral, a retired salesman, passed away after a long struggle with cancer on Monday, October 8, 2012. He was 70 years old. Frank was born in Acushnet, MA the son of James and Gertrude Gatheral, who had emigrated from Newfoundland. He was raised and educated in Stoneham and was a graduate of Notre Dame High School in Cambridge. He had made his home in Burlington for the past 50 years. Frank worked his entire career as a self-employed salesman in the advertising industry. He retired 5 years ago.
Frank was an avid golfer, playing 2 or 3 rounds a week. He was a member of The Green Meadow Golf Course Inner Club. He loved the game of golf, the challenges it created, and the time spent with friends and golfers talking about the game. To his credit, he had 2 “Holes in One” in his many years of golf. Frank was a member of the Burlington Knights of Columbus and The Improved Order of Red Men in Stoneham. He and his wife, Pat, enjoyed traveling and taking cruises to warm destinations, that happened to have golf courses. He frequently golfed with his son, Jim and loved the time he spent with his granddaughter, Brooke.
Frank was the beloved husband to Pat (Langley) for 50 years. He was the loving father of Jim & his wife Julie of Nashua, NH and the late Kim Gatheral Connolly and father-in-law of Ed Connolly of Burlington. He was the proud grandfather of Brooke Kimberleigh Gatheral of Nashua, NH. He was the brother-in-law of James and Mal Langley of Burlington, cousin of Margaret Dunn of Stoneham, and uncle of Jennifer Towne, Jim Langley, and Ryan Langley.
Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Saturday, Oct. 13 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited. The interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Frank’s name may be made to House of Hope, Inc., 812 Merrimack St., Lowell, MA 01854 or The K of C Exceptional Children’s Fund, PO Box 25, Burlington, MA 01803.
