Obituary of Manuel Camacho

Manuel F. Camacho, a resident of Woburn for over 50 years, passed away at his home on Monday morning, August 15, 2011. He was the husband of the late Rose (Abreu) and had just celebrated his 88 birthday in July. Manuel was born on the Island of Madeira, Portugal. He was one of 9 children born to the late Joao and Antonia Camacho. He moved to the United States and met his wife Rose. and settled in Woburn where they raised their family. Manuel worked as a Mason and worked for White Construction for many years. He was proud of his Portuguese heritage. He made several trips back to Madeira to visit his family. He was a member of the Portuguese American Recreation Club in Woburn. Manuel was an avid Gardner and his garden and grape arbor was his “pride and joy.” He grew a multitude of vegetables, including potatoes, kale, chayote squash, tomatoes, various herbs and grapes, which he loved to share with his family and neighbors. The grapes that grew would be used to make homemade wine. He enjoyed playing traditional Portuguese music on his Hohner Harmonica Accordion at family gatherings, where his family was the center of his life. Manuel was the beloved husband of the late Rose (Abreu) and also the loving father of Rosemary DeSousa & her husband Jose, Brenda Camacho-Claudino & her husband Carlos Claudino, and Irene Camacho-Martinez & her husband Miguel Martinez all of Woburn and the late Manuel. Brother of Joao of Portugal, Eduardo of Brazil, Jose, Joaquim both of Venezuela, Antonio of Woburn, Maria Pereira of Wilmington formerly of Woburn and the late Abel and Pedro. Devoted grandfather of Daniela DeSousa, Jaime, Gabriana and Angela Camacho-DeSousa, Justine and Manny Camacho-Claudino, Kory Camacho-DaSilva, and Karina Camacho-Martinez. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Aug. 18 from 9 – 10:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Church, Woburn at 11 a.m. Interment in Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. Memorials in Manuel’s name may be made to the VNA of Middlesex East & Visiting Nurse Hospice, 607 North Ave., Suite 17, Wakefield, MA 01880.
