Obituary of Viola Johnson

Viola (Ligorous-Giatas) Johnson, a resident of Burlington for over 50 years, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington on Sunday, August 14, 2011. The beloved wife of the late John Johnson and Constantine Giatas, she was 91 years old. Viola was born in White Plains New York. She grew up and was educated in Greece where she lived until the age of 21. She lived in New York City until she was married and then settled in Burlington. Viola’s primary role in life was that of homemaker. However, she also worked as a Technician at American Optical in Bedford, Sylvania and Transatron. Viola was very active at the Burlington Council on Aging where she enjoyed many friendships with her great sense of humor and outgoing personality. She attended all their events and was a member of their exercise class. She was also a member of the BSCO. The Council on Aging held a celebration for all 90 year olds this past June that Viola had attended. She enjoyed knitting for newborns. Viola was affectionately known as “Yia Yia” to her family. She was blessed to be a part of her children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter lives. Viola was the beloved wife of the late John Johnson and Constantine Giatas. She was the loving mother of Valerie DeMagistris of Nashua, NH, Anna Moccaldi & her husband Peter of Burlington and Arthur Giatas of Billerica. Grandmother of Dean & Krista DeMagistris, Melanie Moccaldi, Julianna Diflorio & her husband Carl, Andrew & Nikki Giatas. Great Grandmother of Sophia Diflorio. Mother-in-law of Ralph DeMagistris of Nashua, NH. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Aug. 18 at 9 a.m. Followed by Funeral Services at the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church, 70 Montvale Avenue, Woburn at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday 4-8 p.m. Interment in Westlawn Cemetery, Lowell In lieu of Flowers memorials in Viola's name may be made to the Burlington Council on Aging, 61 Center St., Burlington, MA 01803
