To the Knowles family, I'm sad I only knew your Dad for a short time, but in that time, I got to know a man who loved his family dearly, worked hard and did whatever he could to raise that family, had a wonderfully wry sense of humor, smart, and was so handy. I'll never forget how proud he was of all his tools and the things he had made with them in my tour of the cellar. Men like him are few and far between, and I'm glad I got to know him. My condolences to each and everyone of you for the loss of Gene, embrace the happy memories of him forever.

I have not seen Gene for many years when he drove for my father-in-laws trucking company in Burlington/ As I told you several times that I wanted to drop in at the coffee shop and ask is there a Gene Knowles here? To Jeanne and family, It is very obvious that Gene was well loved and well respected by all who knew him. One only had to be around you together to see that. He was so proud to show me the bowls he had made for each of you children and I knew how much he loved you all. Jeanne it was easy to see the love you shared each time I visited your home.
