Obituary of Joan Ann Getchell
Joan Ann (Hallsen) Getchell, passed away at Berwick Estates in York, Maine on Tuesday morning, October 23, 2018. The beloved wife of the late Paul R. Getchell, she was 78 years old.
Joan was born in Dorchester. She was the daughter of the late John and Evelyn Hallsen. She was raised and educated in Quincy and a 1957 graduate of Quincy High School. Joan had a long career as a Claims Representative in the Insurance Industry. She worked for Central Mutual in Waltham for over 25 years.
Joan and Paul married in 1960 and move to Burlington in 1964 where they would raise their two children. Joan was a homebody. She enjoyed being a wife and mother. She was a loving and supportive mother to her children Donny and Paula. Nothing brought her greater joy than the birth of her grandson Will. She was an incredible grandmother. Joan and Will had a close and loving relationship They weren’t just grandmother and grandson they were friends. Joan was blessed to be a great grandmother to Van and Bodie. Joan also had a special bond with her daughter-in-law Lisa who was more like a daughter to her. In 2010 Joan moved to Maine to be closer to Donny and Lisa. She bought a home two doors down from them. They had many happy memories living together in Maine. Joan will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She leaves a legacy of love and family.
Joan is the beloved wife of the late Paul R. Getchell. She was the loving mother of Donald & his wife Lisa of York, ME and the late Paula. Joan was the proud & devoted grandmother of Will & his wife Taylor. Great grandmother of Van & Bodie. Sister of the late Richard Hallsen. Dear friend of Susan Sylvester of Tewksbury. A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Saturday, Oct. 27 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. Concluding with Funeral Services at 11:00 a.m. Burial to follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.
