Obituary of Lucia Pondelli

Lucia “Dolly” Pondelli (Nunziato), a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother passed away after a long struggle with Lewy Bodies Dementia Disease on Sunday night, October 28, 2018.  She was 94 years old.  Dolly was one of 6 children born to Italian immigrants, Alphonse and Rose Nunziato.  She was born in the family home on Elm Street in Somerville.  She would go onto live in Somerville for 90 of her 94 years.  She was a graduate of Somerville High School.  She married her husband, Albert, in 1946 and they went onto to have 3 children.  Dolly worked part time at Necco, Filenes, and Carter Inc. during her working years.  But her full-time job was taking care of her family.  She and her husband Albert made a wonderful couple.  They were members of the Dante Club, the VFW and VFW Auxiliary.  What they loved most was ballroom dancing. Dolly was the more talented dancer and her elegance and grace made Albert look like a natural.  The Wonderland Ballroom was one of their favorite places to dance.  They also enjoyed their yearly vacation in Mashpee and trips to Martha’s Vineyard.  Dolly loved getting all dressed up and going to the theater and was just as happy at home watching old movies.  She loved going to dinner parties and family gatherings.  Dolly was most famous for her meatball recipe. Dolly could never be described as “A woman of few words”. She could make a connection with anyone and talk for hours about anything.  She was blessed to have a long life and have a special place in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren’s life’s.

Dolly was the beloved wife of the late Albert Pondelli.  She was the loving mother of Kenneth Pondelli & his wife Nancy of Burlington, Janet Lee Pondelli of Cambridge and the late Albert A. Pondelli.  She was the mother-in-law of Kathy Pondelli of Somerville.  She was the proud grandmother of Christina Flaherty, Laura Morrison, Jennifer Scarpelli, Julianne Pondelli & Jeana Pondelli and great grandmother of Mia, Lucia, William, Patrick, Olivia, Shannon & Ryan.  She was the sister of John Nunziato of Woburn and the late Joseph, Anthony, Salvador & Carmen Nunziato.  Sister-in-law of Anna Nunziato of Somerville.

A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Wednesday, Oct. 31 from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon.  Entombment to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery & Mausoleum, Malden.  Memorials in Dolly’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, 309 Waverley Oaks Rd., Waltham, MA 02452
