Obituary of Joanne Mary Smith

Joanne Mary (Quigley) Smith, passed away at the Merrimack Valley High Pointe Hospice House in Haverhill on Saturday evening, October 27, 2018, following a brief illness. She was 70 years old.

 

Joanne was born in Woburn. She was the daughter of the late Roger J. and Eleanor F. Quigley.  Joanne was raised and educated in Burlington and a 1966 graduate of Burlington High School.  Joanne brought her children up in Lexington. At the age of 40 Joanne went back to school and graduated with her Associates Degree from Middlesex Community College. She retired from a long career in the health care industry as a Network Coordinator with Aetna Student Health. 

 

Joanne was a loving and supportive mother to her three children. She enjoyed her many trips to Florida to visit her daughters and grandchildren. Her grandchildren brought her great joy and nothing brought Joanne more happiness than to spend time with them.  Joanne also bought a second home on Lake Winnisquam which became a gathering spot for her family and friends.

Joanne had an outgoing and witty personality.  She was always the life of the party.  You always knew where you stood with Joanne and she always told you what was on her mind.

 

Joanne was the loving mother of Sherry Jean Grace & her husband Richard of Palm Bay, FL, Scott Forrest Smith of Westford and Tammy Marie Hilton of Palm Bay, FL.   She was the proud grandmother of Brandon Robert Grace, Rikki Brianna Grace, Troy Rigby Hilton, Mariah Elie Hilton and Alicia Katrina Hilton.  Joanne was the beloved sister of Roger J. Quigley of Brockton, Patricia R. Lachance of Salem, NH, Judith E. Zugale of Allenstown, NH, John P. Quigley of Methuen and Debora Q. Vallis of Salem, NH.  Joanne also leaves many nieces, nephews and friends. 

 

A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt., 128/95 side) on Friday, Nov. 2 from 9 – 9:30 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford Street, Burlington at 10 a.m.  Burial to follow in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Joanne’s name may be made to the Merrimack Valley Hospice, High Pointe House, 360 Merrimack Street, Bldg. 9, Lawrence, MA 01843.
