Obituary of Albert Eugene Chryst

Albert Eugene Chryst passed away on Thursday evening, November 1, 2018. The beloved husband of the late Ruth Evelyn (Cusson) he had just celebrated his 89th birthday on October 24th.

Albert was born in Mineral Ridge Ohio. He was one of five children born to the late Charles and Elizabeth Chryst.  He was raised in Niles, Ohio. Albert was a veteran of the United States Navy serving his country for three years from 1948 – 1952, primarily commissioned to the USS Des Moines. He achieved the rank of Boatswain’s Mate Third Class. He was the recipient of the Navy Occupational Service Medal which was awarded to Navy personnel in the occupation of certain territories of the enemies of the U.S. during World War II.

Albert and Ruth settled in Burlington in 1963 where they would raise their two children. Albert worked hard to provide for his family. He owned a Shell Gas Station in Elliott Square in Cambridge for 15 years. Albert then went to work for Whitehouse Moving Company in Somerville which specialized in both residential and commercial moves. Albert was a super strong man and this was the perfect job for him. He would think nothing of hoisting up a grand piano up five stories. He soon would purchase the company and retired after 35 years of owner operation.

Albert was not one to be idle. He enjoyed watching a good wrestling match and a good western. He was an avid reader with history and biographies being his favorite topics. He always kept up on current events in the world by watching the news each and every day.

Albert loved to indulge his grandchildren. Albert was a fun grandfather playing pin ball games, pool table and watching sporting events together. Simply said his grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchild brought him the greatest joy.    The last few years of his life were made so special for Albert living with his great grandchildren and seeing them on a daily basis.

Albert was the beloved husband of the late Ruth (Cusson). He was the loving father of James & his wife Cynthia of Strafford, NH and Alice Danielson & her husband Wayne of Burlington. Proud grandfather of Jaime, James, Jenna, & Meghan Chryst and Adam & Tara Danielson.    Also survived by 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Brother of the late Charles, Norman & Frederick Chryst and Violet Mae Bartlett.
