Obituary of Charles Ellsworth
Charles Ellsworth, a retired truck driver, passed away at his home with his family at his bedside on Thursday evening, October 18, 2012. He was 81 years old.
Charlie was born in Ipswich, the son of the late Edward and Mary “Gladys” Ellsworth. He was raised and educated in Beverly. He went to work as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local 42. He worked at Cressy Dockhan, GTE Transport, and Stop & Shop. He did both local and long haul trucking and proudly would say that he driven through all 48 continental states. He loved being on the road. Even on his days off, Charlie would hop in his car with his family and take a road trip. He never had a plan or itinerary, the trip would simply start with should we go left or right, and they were off. He never needed a map or directions. These vacations created lasting memories for his family. Charlie’s retirement as a truck driver only lasted days. He couldn’t sit still, so he went back to work as a shuttle driver at Burlington Dodge for another 10 years, finally retiring at the age of 75.
Charlie loved his home and his family. He would have celebrated 40 years of marriage to his wife Eleanor, in January. He loved his children and always placed them first. He attended all their sporting events, provided for them, and loved the time he spent with them. Charlie wasn’t a huge Red Sox or Patriots fan, but prized watching the games with his family, who were fans. Charlie was always in full throttle when he was at home. He spent countless hours in his yard maintaining his flower garden, vegetable gardens, landscape, and lawn. He took great pride in his home’s appearance. In his last year, his family was able to return all Charlie’s love for them in the way they lovingly cared for him in the home he loved so much.
Charlie was the beloved husband of Eleanor A. (Dwyer). He was the father of Bryan Ellsworth & his wife Paula Chagnon of Burlington, Kenneth Ellsworth & his girlfriend Alyson Addonizio of Billerica. He was predeceased by his siblings; Gladys, Eileen, Elizabeth, Edward, Wilbur, and Helen. He was the grandfather of Rayna Ellsworth and Madison Ellsworth.
