Obituary of Carol Ann Ropelewski

Carol Ann (Kris) Ropelewski, of Winchester MA, and formerly of Bonita Springs, FL, passed away at the Aberjona Nursing Center on Monday evening, November 26, 2018 after a prolonged illness.  Carol was 71 years old.  The beloved spouse of the late Debra Dumas.  Devoted daughter of the late Chester and Helen (Parda) Ropelewski.  Loving sister of Donna Albano of Pittsfield and the late Daniel Ropelewski.  Beloved aunt of Lauren Albano and the late Daniel Albano, and great aunt to Julean.  Cherished niece to Irene Ropelewski. 

Carol was raised in Pittsfield and attended Pittsfield High School and the Vesper George School of Art in Boston, graduating with an associate’s degree in art. She lived in a number of communities in and around Boston, as well as Bonita Springs Florida.  

Carol had a wide variety of careers including technical artist, graphic artist, children’s book author and illustrator, caterer, and administrative assistant. No matter what she did, Carol was a dedicated and very hard worker.

Carol would meet her soulmate and spouse Debra Dumas while vacationing on Cape Cod in 1978.   They were together over 35 years, and married at their home in October of 2010.  Carol and Deb had a wonderful life together.  Sharing their loves of music, movies, art, and food.  They formed their own catering business called “The Underground Café”.    Working together was one of the greatest joys in their lives.

Carol loved music and movies with “classic oldies” being her favorite. She had an encyclopedic knowledge of each, and could quote movie lines, cast members, liner notes and knew the lyrics of a dizzying array of songs.  She enjoyed movie nights, dinner dates, and impromptu home concerts with Deb and her large circle of friends.  

Carol was a gifted artist, author, and poet.  She had written a number of children’s books and did her own illustrations.  She could reproduce images with photographic precision.  She had a sharp mind and rapier wit.  Carol had an uncanny memory not only for movies and music, but people, faces, numbers, history, and trivia. 

Carol was a lot of fun to be around and was upbeat and outgoing.  You couldn’t help but be happy around her.  She was also fiercely loyal to her family and friends.  She supported many causes with her time, efforts and donations.  She was generous to a fault. She has left us all with cherished memories that will remain in our hearts and minds forever.

A Memorial visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Saturday, January 12, 2018 from 12:00PM to 1:00PM, concluding with a Memorial Service at 1:00PM.  Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.   Memorials in Carol’s name may be made to the Best Friends Animal Society: bestfriends.org.
