Obituary of Dorothy Selig

A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 pm at the Park Avenue Nursing & Rehab Center, 146 park Avenue, Arlington (781) 648-9530. Dorothy E. (Chase) Selig, a resident of Burlington for over 53 years, passed away at the Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Burlington, on Thursday, October 25, 2012. The beloved wife of 58 years of Samuel M. Selig she was 94 years old. Dorothy was born in Rye New York. She was the daughter of the late Walter and Beulah Chase. Dorothy was raised and educated in Wakefield and a graduate of Wakefield High School. Dorothy led a full and active life. She worked at Almy’s in Burlington for many years as a Department Manager. In later years after Almy’s closed she worked for Sears. She was a member of the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Tandem Club at the United Methodist Church in Malden. Dorothy and her family loved to camp. They had a trailer at the Grand View Campground in Rochester, NH and also enjoyed camping on Lake Memphremagog at Lindsey Lodge in Newport Vermont. Dorothy’s family was the center of her life. She enjoyed entertaining her children and their families whether it be a cookout or a holiday dinner. She was blessed to have 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. Dorothy will be remembered as a classy and loving woman. Dorothy and Samuel would have celebrated their 59th Wedding Anniversary in November. Dorothy was the beloved wife of 58 years of Samuel M. Loving mother of David Hannigan & his wife Gracie of Sarasota, FL, Carol Tolonen of Nashua, NH, Sharon Alessandroni & her husband John of Chelmsford, Mark Selig & his wife Karen of Lake Worth, FL and the late Sheila M. Hannigan. Sister of Daisy Arnold of Stoneham, Bernice Friedman of Fountain Hills, AZ and the late Rodman Chase. Also survived by 7 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 6:00 pm at the Park Avenue Nursing & Rehab Center, 146 park Avenue, Arlington (781) 648-9530.
