Obituary of Thomas R Dunbar

         Thomas R. Dunbar passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Sunday, December 30, 2018.  Beloved husband of the late Norma Shirley (Anderson), he was 86 years young.

        Thomas was born in Malden.  He was the son of the late Flora (Moore) and Oliver J. Dunbar.  A high school graduate who accelerated in field and track. He joined the United States Navy in 1952, with an honorable discharge as a RD2 in 1956, while serving on the flag ship of the Mediterranean 6th fleet during the Korean conflict. Thomas went on to become a Machinist from a small company “DE Heart” to a large one called “Textron”, from there he provided his expertise to “St. Jude” with their Medical Research & Development department.  Together with his wife Shirley he volunteered at Concord State MCI for over 10 years in a ministry Program through Grace Chapel.  Together, through the Josh McDowell ministries, they took a cruise to Alaska, Sharing their wisdom and love. Together they also owned “Elegant Greenery for 13 years which specialized in Interior Landscaping. Thomas was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather that will be deeply missed. Thomas was our rock, our foundation, our inspiration. He loved life and always offered his services to help others. Unselfishly.

        Tom was the beloved husband of the late of the late Norma Shirley (Anderson).  Loving father of Norma of Burlington, Thomas R. Jr. & his wife Meredith of Marlborough, CT, Elizabeth Nesti & her husband Robert of Nashua, NH and Sharon Baum & her husband Robert of Woburn.  Proud grandfather of Jessica Pozzato, Ian Dunbar and Deborah & Sarah Nesti.  Great grandfather of Evelyn Dunbar and Jude & Luciana Pozzato.  Brother of the late Phyllis Anderson, Dorothy Gilpatrick and Edward and Ralph Dunbar.  Memorial Services will be held at Grace Chapel, 59 Worthen Rd., Lexington on Saturday, January 19 at Noon.  Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.  In lieu of flowers memorials in Tom’s name may be made to Special Olympics www.give.specialolympics.org
