Obituary of Annemarie Sweeney

Annemarie Sweeney, a woman who gave of herself to her daughters and neighbors, passed away on Saturday morning, October 27, 2012 at the Winchester Hospital. She was 79 years old. Annemarie was born in Cambridge, the daughter of the late Edmund and Edna Lynch. She grew up and was educated in Burlington. She married John Sweeney and the started a family. John tragically died of an aneurysm at the age of 32 and Annemarie was left to raise their 3 children ages 4, 3, and 2. Returning to work, as well as raise her 3 daughters, she worked at Sammy's, and the Lahey Clinic, before getting a clerk's position at the Burlington Post Office. She retired from the Post Office after 16 years. With the help of her family, neighbors, and good friends, she managed to balance work with motherhood. She never forgot those who assisted her during those difficult times and later in life, she and her daughters were able to helped care for those who where there for them. Annemarie was a lifelong resident of Burlington. She was the Fourth Grade Director of the Saint Margaret's CCD for 20 years. She was a member of several bowling leagues. She enjoyed going to Bingo with friends and knitting. She had a wonderful group of friends, They were known as &quote;Club”. When they were young, they gathered together and had luncheons, dinners, group vacations and cruises. For almost 50 years, &quote;Club” was there to support one another and created lasting memories filled with laughter and friendship. Annemarie treasured her family and loved being involved her grandchildren’s daily lives. She also gave them a wonderful model of unselfish devotion to those who you love. Annemarie was the beloved wife of the late John Sweeney. She was the loving mother of Susan Butler & her husband Steven of Stoneham, Kathleen Kelly & her husband Stephen of Burlington, and Eileen of CT. She was the sister of Edmund Lynch of Woburn, Geraldine Markarian of Salem. She was the proud grandmother of Andrew & Shannon Butler, Jonathan & Justin Kelly, and Joseph and Crystal Sweeney. She was the special aunt of Lisa & Laura Markarian of Salem. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Nov. 2 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret's Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington. Memorials in Annemarie's name may be made to the Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284-9168.
