Obituary of Jim Vaughan
James V. Vaughan, a retired Accountant for the Department of Defense, passed away Saturday morning, January 19, 2019. The beloved husband of Alice (Corlett) he was 84 years old. Jim was born in Dublin Ireland. He was the son of the late Michael and Josephine Vaughan. Jim and Alice met at a New Year's Eve party while in Dublin and moved to England where he worked as an accountant. They were married in 1960 in Dublin. In 1965 they moved to the United States and lived in the Harvard Square section of Cambridge. In 1970 they moved to their current home in Burlington.
Jim attended Bentley College in the evenings and obtained his Bachelor’s Degree. Later he went on to receive his Masters from Suffolk University. He worked as an Accountant for the Department of Defense for over 12 years. The first six years were at Fort Devens and the last six at Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indiannapolis. Jim was part of the “Tiger Team” that was a specialized group that travelled to bases for closure. After his retirement Jim worked part-time for Curtin, Murphy & O’Reilly, a law firm in Boston.
Jim was a quiet man who loved his books on Ireland and stamp collecting. He enjoyed travelling with his wife to Ireland and various destinations in Europe each year.
Jim was a longtime member of the BADX Group, which is an association of radio listeners. They enjoyed monthly meetings or sharing a meal at one of their regular outings.
Jim had a wonderful 58 year marriage to Alice. They became United States Citizens together on the same day. He was very proud of his two children John and Adrienne. Jim’s greatest joy was becoming a grandfather, and his granddaughter Madeleine brought him great happiness.
Jim was the beloved husband of Alice (Corlett) Loving father of John of Burlington and Adrienne Vaughan & her husband Brian Trabish of West Roxbury. Proud grandfather of Madeleine Trabish-Vaughan. Brother of Brian & Bernie of Ireland, Michael of England, Noel of NY and the late Anthony. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Thursday, Jan 24 from 4-8 p.m. Funeral from the Funeral Home on Friday, Jan 25 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Memorials in Jim’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
