Obituary of Joan Mello
Joan F. Mello. A retired Tax Examiner for the Department of Revenue, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 23, 2019 at the Exeter Hospital in Exeter, New Hampshire. She was 68 years old. Joan was born in Boston, the daughter of Walter and Marie Tigges. She grew up and was educated in East Boston graduating from East Boston High School. She worked as hair stylist and manager at B0_Ricks and Fantastic Sam’s Solons in East Boston for many years. She also had her Real Estate License and worked with Century 21. Joan ended her career working in the Boston office of Department of Revenue.
Joan was a woman devoted to her family and always placed her family’s needs first. She raised her son and daughter in East Boston. She then helped raise her grandchildren. She made her home in East Boston until 2016 when she, her son Timmy, and grandchildren moved to Freemont, New Hampshire. Caring for her family was a full time job. Joan had a number of interest and activities over the years. She made jewelry and loved testing her luck at Foxwoods. She loved the ocean and by living in East Boston had easy access to another favorite pass time, boating and fishing. Her sister, Rita, was her travel companion and they took trips warm weather destinations. She also enjoyed shopping for herself and her family.
Joan was the beloved mother of Rita Carias of East Boston and Timmy Tigges of Freemont, NH formerly of East Boston. She was the proud grandmother of Michael Jesso, Joan Tigges and Theresa Tigges-Firicano. Sister of Catherine Melander & her husband Bob of FL, Stephen Schiavone of Seabrook, NH, Robert Tigges & his wife Karen of Allenstown, NH, Edward Tigges of Salem, NH, James Tigges & his wife Simone of Burlington, Kenneth Tigges & his wife Michelle of Burlington, the late Rita O’Brien and Walter J. Tigges, III. Sister-in-law of Patty Tigges of Lynnfield, the late Lore Tigges, and Paul O’Brien. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
A visitation will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn Street, Burlington (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95, Woburn side) on Wednesday, February 27 from 6-8 p.m. Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, February 28 at Noon. Services will conclude with a burial at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
