Obituary of Marilyn C Richards

Marilyn C. (Rideout) Liljegren-Richards passed away at Care One in Wilmington on Sunday evening, March 10, 2019. The beloved wife of the late George Richards and Stuart Liljegren, she was 95 years old.

Marilyn was born in Dorchester.  She was the daughter of the late Edward and Laura Rideout.  Marilyn was raised and educated in Belmont. It was while attending Belmont High School that she would meet her future husband Stuart Liljegren who was attending Watertown High School.  Stuart would walk miles from Watertown to Belmont just to spend time with Marilyn.   They were High School “Sweet Hearts”.  They married and moved to Burlington in the late 1950’s where they raised their three children.   They had a wonderful life together until Stuart’s death in 1985 at the age of 62.   Marilyn married George Richards in 1998.   Marilyn and George shared many similar interests one of which was dancing.

Marilyn was an independent woman who kept very busy.  She worked for many years as a Technician in the Electronics Industry, retiring in her 70’s.    She enjoyed taking day trips throughout New England.  The perfect day for Marilyn would be a trip to the ocean and enjoying a quiet dinner with family.    Marilyn loved her home and would tackle any task within her home that came her way even painting the house and mowing the lawn.  She loved and took great pride in her flower garden.

Marilyn was a loving and caring mother and her three children did not want for anything while they were growing up.  She loved her grandchildren and growing up they always looked forward to weekend sleepovers at “Nana’s”.    Marilyn took great pride in seeing her grandchildren marry, start families of their own and providing her with six great grandchildren.  As her health began to decline her daughter Donna and her grandchildren were constantly by her side caring for her just as Marilyn had cared for them throughout the years.

Marilyn was the beloved wife of late George Richards and Stuart Liljegren.  Loving mother of Stuart Liljegren, Jr. of MI, Donna Catino & her husband Joseph of Billerica and the late Karl Liljegren.  Proud grandmother of Douglas Fleming & his wife Maria, Laura Noonan & her husband David, Amy Martell & her husband Jeff LeGrow, Stuart W. Liljegren, III & Erik Liljegren & his wife Monika.  Great grandmother of Hannah, Jacob, Angela, James, Annika & Lucas.   Sister of Audree Dublin of FL and the late Franklin, William and Florice Rideout.   Funeral Services will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Wed. March 13 at 11 a.m.  Visiting hours will be held prior to the service from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m.  Burial will be held in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.   In lieu of flowers memorials in Marilyn’s name may be made to the Karl Liljegren & Jay Beaulieu Scholarship Fund, c/o Northern Bank & Trust, 13 Center St., Burlington, MA 01803.
