Obituary of Rose Marie McShane

Rose Marie McShane passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House on Thursday April 18, 2019.  Marie would have celebrated her 89th birthday on April 28th.

Marie was born, raised and educated in Watertown.  She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Rose Ann McShane.  Marie’s life centered around her children.    Marie was a single mom and worked hard to provide for her six children, at times working multiple jobs.       She made sure her children did not want for anything when they were growing up and she was always there for them.  

After her retirement Marie volunteered at The Lahey Clinic in Burlington.  She was the welcoming face at the front desk of Lahey when you walked in the door.       Marie was also active at the Burlington Council on Aging where she made many friendships throughout the years. She received the honor of being Volunteer of the Year for her dedicated service at the Council on Aging.

Marie took two memorable trips to Ireland.  She was also an avid golfer.   Marie loved spending time with her grandchildren and they brought her great joy. She was very proud of all her grandchildren’s accomplishments and enjoyed attending all the memorable events in their lives. 

Marie is the beloved mother of Roseanne Karahalios & her husband the late Bobby of Topsail Beach, NC, Deborah Igo & her husband the late Timothy of Tewksbury, Daniel Gass & his wife Valerie of Burlington, Margaret Peterson & her husband David of Woburn, Robert Gass & his wife Lynda of Billerica and the late Edward Gass.   Proud grandmother of Dylan Karahalios, Kelly Igo, Stephanie, Amanda, Nikki, Robert Jr. & Lauren Gass, Edward Cetrone, and David Peterson Jr.  

Graveside services will be held at Chestnut Hill Cemetery on Saturday, May 18th at Noon.  Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Marie’s name may be made to the Burlington Council on Aging, 61 Center St., Burlington, MA 01803.
