Obituary of June M Ryan

June M. Ryan, a retired manager for John Hancock Insurance, passed away after a brief illness on Sunday morning, May 19, 2019.  She was 88 years old. June was born in the family home on Francis Wyman Road, Burlington, in 1930.  She was one of six children born to William and Nellie Duncan.  She grew up in Burlington back in the day when Burlington was just a small farming community of several thousand residents.  She was a 1949 graduate of Burlington High School.  June was a doer.  After high school, she went to work for John Hancock at an entry level position and over the years she moved her way up to a managerial position.  She retired with over 40 years with the company.

June was the quiet one of the Duncan family.  She never wanted to be the center of attention, but was always there to support and lend a helping hand.  She was a member of a ski club.  It was during her skiing adventures that she met her husband, Jack.  They were married in 1969 and lived for a spell in Nahant before returning home to Burlington.  They owned thorough bred horses which they raced at Suffolk Downs and Rockingham.  June was also an avid golf fan and loved watching it, especially Tiger’s recent come back!  She has been a faithful parishioner of St. Margaret Church since its inception in 1945. June loved to travel and spend time with her family.   She was the family “wheel woman”.  June loved to drive and wouldn’t hesitate to drive to Florida, Pennsylvania, Georgia, and any other destination for special family events and vacations.  She loved the road trips with her niece Joan and talking about the adventures and laughs they had.  She had an incredibly close bond with her sisters.  She loved all her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.  She had a very special place in her heart for her niece, Joan Lloyd.  June, as well as the rest of her family, smothered her with love and affection.  There was not anything she would not do to enrich Joan’s life and bring a smile to her face.  That is how June was. She was unpretentious, quiet, and a humble servant to her faith and her family.

June was the beloved wife of the late John P. Ryan.  She was the loving sister of Eleanor Lloyd of Burlington and the late Frances Hayward, Irene Curtis, Mary Bennett and Alice Duncan.  She was the special aunt to the late Joan Lloyd and step-grandmother of Kristen Leary.  June is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt.128/95 Woburn side) on Thursday, May 23 from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.   Funeral from the Funeral Home on Friday, May 24 at 11 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon.
