Obituary of Betty Jane Gibb

Betty J. Gibb of Burlington, MA went to be with the Lord she loved on June 6, 2019.  She was born on February 1, 1929, in Reading, PA to the late John W. Pinkerton and Bertie Miller.  After graduating from Reading High School, Betty studied at Reading Hospital School of Nursing to become a Registered Nurse.  Her passion for healing and care continued in the years raising her children and showed in her love as she cared for her husband Don during his final illness in 2016.  Betty met her sweetheart at a Bible conference in Stony Brook, NY and they were married on October 6, 1956.  Don and Betty lived in Belmont during their early marriage and then settled in Burlington to raise their family.

Betty enjoyed finding new recipes for old favorites, and was interested in natural health options.  She loved to research and find out how things work. Garage sales and thrift shops were her delight and finding lamps to rewire was a real treasure.  Betty loved studying the Bible and anyone that entered her home did not leave without hearing God’s word and seeing her faith.

Betty is survived by her seven children: Sandra (Lance) Oaks of Kalamazoo, MI;  Diane (Robert) Carver of Roxboro, NC; David (Bonnie) Gibb of Chelmsford, MA;  Lois (Mark) Christopher of Otisfield, ME; Martha (David) Sykes of Marlborough, MA;  Ruth (Tim) Cadigan of Springvale, ME;  Jonathan (Jessica) Gibb of Wilmington, MA; grandchildren Daniel, Mark, Lea, James, Rachel, Kasey, Sarah, Rebekah, Dylan, and great-grandchildren Rowan, Connor, Wesley and Avett.  Betty is also survived by her sister Katherine Levengood of Pottstown, PA and brother John (Ellen) Pinkerton of Reading, PA.  Betty was predeceased by her brother and sister-in-law Ronald and Jean Pinkerton of Womelsdorf, PA.

Burial will be Tuesday, June 11, at 1pm in Highland Meadow Cemetery, Concord Avenue, Belmont, MA. Friends are invited for a celebration of Betty’s life at 5pm at Countryside Bible Chapel, 480 Lowell Street, Lexington, MA.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Betty’s name to: Joni and Friends New England, 136 Harvey Road Suite 101-A, Londonderry, NH 03053, or Samaritan’s Purse, PO Box 3000, Boone, NC 28607.
