Obituary of John Connors

Dr. John W. Connors passed away Friday morning, November 9, 2012 at his home with his wife Rose at his bedside. He was 89 years old. John was born in Allston, MA, the son of the late Anne and Louis Connors. He grew up in Revere, MA, attended the Immaculate Conception School, and then transferred to Revere High, Class of 1942, so that he could play football. John worked in the Navy Yard after high school and then enlisted in the US Army in 1943. He served in Company G of the 508th Parachute Infantry Regiment. He fought in Central Europe and was the recipient of the Occupation Medal of Germany, European African Middle Eastern Theater Campaign Ribbon, WW II Victory Medal, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, and the Good Conduct Medal and was a member of the boxing team. After his return, John attended Stately College in Boston for two years and then joined the seminary for two years. He then changed his life's plans and chose Chiropractic as a career. He attended Palmer College of Chiropractic in Davenport, Iowa, and graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic in 1954. Dr. John practiced in Revere, Massachusetts with his brother Louis for 13 years prior to Chiropractic licensure. They both pioneered to get the Chiropractic licensure passed in 1966 under Governor Volpe. John married his first wife Mary (Mahoney) in 1959 and had four children. Mary passed away in 1973. He was fortunate to meet another wonderful woman, Rose Doherty, who was also a widower with four children of her own. They married in 1978 and have been blessed with 34 happy years together. His family has since grown to 39 in all, including 12 grandchildren and six great grandchildren. In 1970, Dr. Connors opened his practice, Connors Chiropractic, in Saugus, MA, where he treated his patients for 38 years. Not only was Chiropractic a way of life for Dr. Connors, he also served on the State Board of Directors, was director of the Massachusetts Chiropractic Society, and served as President of the North Shore Chiropractic Society. Dr. Connors and his wife Rose retired in Mashpee, MA on John's Pond, where they became active members of the Pocasset Golf Club. They also enjoyed many years wintering in Florida, cruising, traveling and hitting a few casinos along the way, without missing any important events in their children’s, grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s lives. Whether you knew him as Dr. Connors, Doc, John, Jack, Dad, or Papa, you knew first that he was kind, gentle and good hearted to all. Last October 21st, his family and friends celebrated his 90 wonderful years at a surprise 90th birthday party at the Pocasset Club. John will be deeply missed by all and we wish him peace in his new place of rest. John was the beloved husband of Rose M. (Turco-Doherty) Connors and the late Mary (Mahoney). He was the loving father of Dr. Mary Connors & her husband Robert Adams of N. Easton, John Connors & Jeaneene Manual of Saugus, Anne Kauffman & her husband Ronald of Hudson, NH and Paul Connors of Saugus. He was the stepfather of Karen Weadick & her husband Richard of Tyngsboro, Anthony Doherty & his wife Donna of Saugus, Dr. Kurt Doherty & his wife Lynne of Burlington and Paula McMahon & her husband Robert of Burlington.He was redeceased by his siblings; Dr. Louis Connors, Louise Merrill, Mildred Raftery and Irene Sweeney. He is also survived by 12 Grandchildren and 6 Great Grandchildren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON, MA Monday, Nov. 12 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 3-6 p.m. Interment in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington will follow.
