Obituary of Maureen Ashworth

Maureen A. Ashworth, a woman who loved her family and children passed away on Sunday morning at the Health Alliance Hospital in Leominster. She was 79 years old. Maureen was born in Boston, the daughter of George and Mary (Murphy) Barrett. She grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School in 1950. She married her husband, Jim, and they settled in Burlington in 1966 to raise their 3 daughters. Maureen loved being a mother and helping her children take on life’s challenges. She was always there to support them in their decisions, to lend a hand, or help with the upbringing of her grandchildren. She was always a mother first. Maureen went to college when her girls entered school where she earned a degree in Early Childhood Education from Tufts University. She operated a home day care center for several years. Later she worked as an office administrator at Mitre Corporation. She retired from Mitre after 11 years. Maureen taught Sunday school at St. Margaret’s Church. She was an avid reader, loved the theater and visiting the Museum of Fine Arts. Her Irish heritage was very important to her. She visited Ireland in 1990 and recently reconnected with her Irish cousins, Anastatia (Murphy) and George Pouch. In later years she was a devoted Red Sox fan. Maureen was the beloved wife of James B. Ashworth. She was the loving mother of Susan Hall & her husband Larry of Westford, Dorothy Ashworth & her longtime companion, Fred Saseen of Lunenburg, and Joan Tiano-Cedargren & her husband Eric Cedargren of Westford. She was the proud grandmother of Thomas Ashworth, Sophia & Jaeden Tiano and Leonidas Cedargren. Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Friday, Nov. 16 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Thursday 4-7 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
