Obituary of William Walter O'Brien
William Walter O’Brien, a retired Auto Wholesaler, passed away unexpectedly on Monday December 8, 2019. He was 73 years old. Bill was born in Medford, the son of Walter and Mary O’Brien. He grew up and was educated in Lexington. As a youth, he was active in Lexington’s 4 H Club. It was with the 4 H that he really gained an appreciation and love for animals, especially horses. He was a 1964 graduate of Lexington High School. He enlisted in the Army in the early days of the Vietnam War. He was a light weapons infantryman and served 2 years of which 13 months were spent overseas. He was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal presented to him by the President of South Korea. After his military service, he gravitated to auto sales, particularly wholesaling. He owned his own company for many years and ended his carrier with Rockingham Trading Post. He had lived for many years in the Merrimack Valley area and had recently moved back to his hometown of Lexington to help care for his mom. Outside of work, Bill was a huge sports fan especially of the New England Patriots and Boston Red Sox.
Bill was the beloved son of Mary O’Brien of Lexington and the late Walter. Loving brother of Robert of Hampton, NH; Erin of Danvers; Richard & his wife Cheryl of Billerica, Stephen & his wife Anne of Nashua, NH. Bill is also survived by his daughter, Robyn Smyth of Danville, NH and his son, Sean O’Brien of Milford NH; two grandchildren, Emma Rose Obrien and Ryan Martin; 6 nieces and nephews. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Saturday, Dec. 14 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers memorials in Bill’s name will be made to the MSPCA, Attn: Donations, 350 South Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130 www.mspca.org
