We are a family of Law Enforcement Officers and know first hand the worries we face every day with our loved ones being out there, but men and women like Ryan just go out and do their job to protect you and I. We heartfully say we are so sorry for having lost a hero.

My deepest condolences go out to the family....Ryan and I served together with the 972 MP CO.
Ryan was a dedicated soldier. I’ll never forget his hustle, intellect and addictive personality. He was famous for having a coffee in one hand and a cigarette in the other while telling us about his latest police chase and flipping his cruiser several times during his probationary period. Lol. He had lots of interesting stories. He would have been a huge hit on Live PD!
Ryan, thank you for your service to NY and your country. GREAT AMERICAN. RIP, HERO

Just a middle school and high school acquaintance of Ryan’s. Absolutely heartbroken to hear of his passing. He was a good kid. Driving to work today and seeing the literal sea of blue and police vehicles lining Winn Street was incredibly touching to see. I thank him for his service and my prayers are with his fiancée and family. Additionally, the horrors of 9/11 never end, I remember reading on Facebook when he was diagnosed. The most horrible day I can ever remember, and it was also my daughter‘s birthday, and he stepped up as a first responder and did work most of my us, including me, can never fully understand. Rest in peace Ryan. With respect and love from just a former classmate.

I did not know Investigator Fortini personally, but my good friend Investigator Mentillo spoke all the time about him in the most positive way, that I feel as if I had known him. I am sure by knowing the kind of person that Investigator Mentillo is that Investigator Fortini was of the highest integrity and moral fibre. Rest in Peace Sir.

Eddie: No words can relieve the very real sadness and grief of losing one of your children . However if knowing his life was valued, appreciated, and thanked is any consolation; you are being sent all of those as I write this note.
He lived with not only the pride of being one of our Nation's Finest, but one of the Bravest, with every cell in his body filled with 'Goodness' and 'Good Intentions' of his fellow man.
He also lived with one of the most respected Names our community of Stoneham ever beheld as his Grandparents ' Ed and Flo' welcome him into Everlasting Life.
You and your wife raised a magnificent son and just as magnificent a Human Being . My Wife Rose ( who also wears a Police Uniform in her duties) and I wish you the deep comfort of every day realizing that the Promise of God is Real and True just as the Promises of your wonderful son were kept to those who needed his intelligence and bravery.
God Bless You All ...Frank and Rose Pignone

My deepest condolences to the entire Fortini family and Caitlin. I graduated with Ryan from the New York State Police Academy, and the first few weeks I shared a room with him along with Brian Fournier until one of our several room changes! There was never a dull moment from day one. He would complain about the PT and always getting our asses handed to us, but I would always tell him if I can do it, he can do it. That’s because he was 21 and I was 29 so we would always bust each other’s chops. I read the obituary about Ryan always sliding over the line of right and wrong. He did the same in the academy. Hiding candy and some of his other vices in the ceiling and throughout the room. We didn’t want to get in trouble, however we were all thankful when he shared. I was so looking forward to working with Ryan when I was assigned to CNET, however he had to just went out on extended sick leave. I will always remember his smile, quick wit, love for the job and his Massachusetts accent, he never did really shake that totally. And I will always remember him the Ryan I remember in that SP uniform he wore with pride and dignity! Ryan you will be missed! God speed RIP another hero from the one eight zero (180)

It’s with deep sadness that we share our heartfelt condolences with the entire Fortini family for the loss of Ryan. You've lovingly shared his life. You've held his hand; you've held his heart; you've have had so many shared blessings and so few tears - yet for the moment, he had to part. Some people come into our lives, leave footprints on our hearts, and we are forever in theirs, even if in memories. Ryan was one such special person. THANK YOU Ryan for being such a great power of inspiration and support to so many people.
May the blessings of your shared love be with you . They say love beyond the world cannot be separated; death cannot kill it. Love leaves a memory that no one can steal!
Our prayers and care are with you today and in the years to come,
Carmelina & Phillip DAlleva

My memory of Ryan goes back to when he was in my kindergarten class. A little boy who would make you laugh even when you shouldn’t. He was a kid who was liked by everyone and loved by his parents and siblings. He asked me in the snow storm to come by his house and take his picture on a snow bank. There he was on top of the bank with his sister,Joy. I have followed him during his military and personal career and am very proud of who he became and what he accomplished. He will be missed. My condolences to his Mom, Dad,siblings and their families.
