Obituary of David W Smith

David W. Smith passed away at Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln on Sunday morning, November 3, 2019. Dave was the beloved husband of Rosemary (Palmieri) and was 74 years old. David was born in Lynn. He was the son of the late Robert and Mabel Smith. Dave was raised in Marblehead and was a 1963 graduate of Marblehead High School. After high school he enlisted in the Navy serving his country during the Vietnam War from 1963-1967 achieving the rank of AK3 (E-4). Dave was the recipient of the National Defense Service Medal. He enjoyed his time in the Navy and was very proud of his service to his country. After the Navy Dave worked as a Machinist at United Welding in Lynn for over 25 years. He loved his job and took pride in his work. Dave would meet his future wife Rosemary at a local dance. They married on May 9, 1970 and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary next year. Dave and Rosemary settled in Burlington where they would raise their two children. Dave was a quiet man who worked hard to provide for his family. When his daughter Laura graduated from high school, and went to Suffolk University, Dave made sure that Laura had everything she needed to succeed from bus fare to tuition. He was always there for his children and was a loving and supportive father. When his grandchildren came along he was the same with them. Dave and Rosemary took their granddaughter Alyssa on a trip to Disney. He helped babysit for his grandchildren and would pick them up daily from day care and then take them for a walk around the lake. He was affectionately known as “grump” and “great grump” by his grandchildren. Dave loved country music and he and Rosemary enjoyed “line dancing” together! His faith was an important part of his life. Dave was a devout catholic. Although he and Rosemary were longtime members of St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington, they also frequented many of the other local church’s such as St. Barbara in Woburn and St. Mary in Billerica. Growing up near the ocean Dave had a love of the water so it only made sense that family vacations were spent near the ocean at Hampton Beach or at Cape Cod. In later years Dave and Rosemary took an annual trip with a group of Rosemary’s friends. They destinations such as Oregon, Montreal and Tennessee. Dave loved his home took great pride in taking care of his home and his yard. During his retirement years he had his routine. He enjoyed walks with his friend, reading the daily times newspaper, doting on his grandchildren and great grandchildren and doing world search puzzles. Dave will be remembered as a quiet man who had great love and devotion for his family. Dave was the Beloved husband of Rosemary (Palmieri). Loving father of Laura (Smith) Temple of Woburn and the late Robert M. Smith. Proud grandfather of Nolan Temple of GA, formerly of Woburn, Alyssa Temple & her fiancée Michael Stokes of Woburn and Sarah Temple of Woburn.
