Obituary of Patricia Ann Flewelling-Bassett

Patricia Ann (Maguire) Flewelling-Bassett passed away at the Care Dimensions Hospice House in Lincoln on Sunday evening, February 2, 2020. The beloved wife of Ralph A. Bassett for 32 years, she was 77 years old. Pat was born in Boston. She was raised and educated in Belmont and was a 1961 graduate of Belmont High School. Pat was one of four children born to the late James and Margaret Maguire. Pat settled in Burlington where she would raise her three children. She worked in the Lost Control Department at Utica National Insurance Company in Burlington and Wakefield for over 28 years. She retired in 2005. For the past 11 years she had worked part-time as a Receptionist at the Atria Long Meadow in Burlington. With her outgoing personality it was the perfect retirement job for Pat as she loved her interaction with the residents and their families. Being a Mother and Nana was Pat’s most important role in life. When her children were growing up, she was always there to support them in their activities and sporting events. Taking care of her parents, husband and children’s needs was always her number one priority. Being a Nana to her grandchildren provided her with much happiness. She never missed any of their performances or hockey games. – simply said she was their number one fan! Pat and Ralph enjoyed traveling and had taken several cruises, visits to Disney and Las Vegas to name a few. One of Pat’s most favorite things was to take road trips or “weekend escapes” to local destinations with her grandchildren in and around Boston such as Castle Island, Newport, Rockport, Cape Cod and North Conway. Pat was an avid “shopper”. Her grandchildren benefited the most from her shopping trips as she always returned with gifts for them. Pat will be remembered as a loving wife, mother, Nana and sister whose greatest joy was her family. Pat was the beloved wife of Ralph A. Bassett. She was the loving mother of David Flewelling & his wife Doreen of Burlington, Kimberly McGowan & her husband Shane of Bolton and the late Stephen Flewelling. Stepmother of James Bassett of Nashua, NH and Ralph Bassett Jr & his wife Christine of Hudson, NH. Proud grandmother of Krystal Jones, Heather & Shane Flewelling, Ethan Flewelling, Reilly, Ronan & Calan McGowan. Sister of James R. Maguire & his wife Martha of Boston, Kathleen Humora & her husband Michael of Cranbury, NJ and the late Joan Maguire. Mother-in-law of Melissa Thompson of Chelmsford. And her Best Friend of over 40 years Lucille Wyer of Billerica. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Thursday, Feb. 6 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral Services and Burial will be private.
