Obituary of Paul Louis Verbanas

Paul Louis Verbanas, a Veteran of World War II and a Purple Heart Recipient, passed away at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center on Monday afternoon, February 3, 2020. Paul was 95 years old. Paul was born in Boston. He was the son of the late John and Carolina Verbanas. He was raised and educated in East Boston. Paul was a veteran of World War II serving his country in the United States Army. He was the recipient of the European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, World War II Victory Medal and a Purple Heart. Paul fought in a number of the largest and most violent armed conflicts during World War II while stationed primarily in Italy. It was while in Italy that he would meet his future wife, a young woman from Venice named Ida. They married while Paul was still stationed in Italy. Paul and Ida returned to the United States after the war and settled in East Boston. Paul worked hard to provide for his family. He was an Electronics Engineer starting his career at MIT Lincoln Labs. He worked for other electronic companies; MITRE, EG&G and Foster Miller. Paul was devoted to his wife Ida and their family. He was a wonderful role model for his children. When his children were young the family would spend their summers at Thompson Lake in Connecticut. Paul would commute back and forth from Connecticut to Massachusetts where he would work during the week and spend the weekends with his family at the lake. In 1963, Paul moved his family out of the city to a small community named Burlington. Paul loved to travel and always had a trip in the works. He and Ida visited Chicago, Montreal, the White Mountains and Niagara Falls. Six years ago, Carol and Sal and Paul and Bob took a Mediterranean Cruise that stopped in Italy. With great pride Paul showed his children where he married their mother and they visited many of the locations where he fought during World War II. Paul always like to keep busy whether it was helping his daughter, Carol at her shop, painting with his son, Bob or taking an occasional trip to Foxwoods. Paul will be remembered as a loving father, husband and grandfather who leaves his family with wonderful memories. Paul was the beloved husband of the late Ida (Piccinini). Loving father of Carol Buccieri & her husband Sal of Haverhill, formerly of Boxford and Robert Verbanas of Burlington. Proud grandfather of Dina, Joanna, Andrea & David Buccieri. Great grandfather of Elise & Sam Tilden. Brother of the late Bob Verbanas and Daisy Laskey. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Sunday, Feb. 9 from 2-5 p.m. Funeral from the Funeral Home on Monday, Feb. 10 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Burial to follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Malden.
