Obituary of Rose Mitchell

Rose (Lutus) Mitchell, age 88, a resident of Mattapoisett, MA, beloved mother, wife, grandmother, aunt, and cherished friend, passed away on February 21, 2020 at Tobey Hospital in Wareham, MA after a brief illness. Rose passed peacefully in the presence of her loving family. Rose or “Rosie,” as she was lovingly called by her children, was born to Frank and Albina Lutus on March 3, 1931, in Dorchester, Massachusetts. Rosie graduated from high school in Boston, MA. At the very young age of 18, she fell in love and married the love of her life, Edmund J. Mitchell, on September 17, 1949. Together, Ed and Rosie raised six wonderful children, starting out in Dorchester, MA and then moving to Burlington, MA where they spent twenty-five years raising their family and enjoying their life together. She and Ed then moved to Nashua, NH where they enjoyed ten years of traveling, including frequent trips to Arizona, bowling, and spending time with family. Rosie spent her later years enjoying the company of her friends and family in Mattapoisett, MA. Although small in stature, Rosie had a big, loving personality, and her quick wit and humor lit up a room. Rosie touched the lives of many, and she will be greatly missed by all who had the great pleasure of knowing her. Rosie is survived by her six children: Stephanie Mitchell of Mattapoisett, MA; Paul Mitchell of Nashua, NH; Rick Mitchell and his wife Sue of Mattapoisett, MA; Carol Loud of Wilmington, MA; Ed Mitchell and his wife Connie of Chelmsford, MA; and Billy Mitchell and his wife Kathy of Dunstable, MA. Rosie also leaves behind her ten grandchildren: Amy Lauro of Nashua, NH; Matt Mitchell and his wife Caitlyn of Chester, NH; Nick Mitchell of San Diego, CA; Nate Mitchell of Foster, RI; Alyssa Mitchell of Natick, MA; Eddie Mitchell of Auburndale, MA; Kaitlin Alfaro and her husband Marvin of Nashua, NH; Kimberly Mitchell of Boston, MA; Kelly Mitchell of Boston, MA; and Billy Mitchell, Jr. of Dunstable, MA. In addition to her grandchildren she leaves behind three great-grandchildren, Paige, Jonathan, and Jacob as well as nieces and nephews. Rose is preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband of fifty-one years, Edmund J. Mitchell, as well as her brother, John Lutus, and her daughter-in-law, Jeanne Mitchell. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, February 27th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, concluding with Funeral Services at 8 pm. Private burial will take place on Friday, February 28th.
