Obituary of Frank Cimmino
Frank A. Cimmino late co-owner of Jo-Mar Sportswear, passed away after a long illness with his family at his side on Sunday evening, December 2, 2012.
Frank was born in Boston, son of the late Louis and Rose Cimmino. He grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II as a Gunner’s Mate, Third Class. He was discharged in November of 1946 receiving the American Defense Ribbon, World War II Victory Medal, and the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Ribbon. After returning home, he went to work with his father in the garment industry. After learning the trade, he and a co partner started Jo-Mar Sportswear in East Boston. They specialized in women’s sportswear and at their peak had 50 employees. During the 20 years they owned the company, all of his family worked for him including his Dad, who taught him the trade. His children enjoyed working alongside their Dad, because they knew he would treat for lunch at Santarpio’s.
In his retirement years, to keep active he worked for the Burlington School Department. What made Frank special was his warm and inviting personality. He treated everyone as though they were his lifelong friend. He simply enjoyed people, whether it was his employees or coworkers, neighbors, or someone he recently met, he had a genuine warmth and concern towards them. His home and yard were often the place where all his family and friends gathered. He was a talented chef and loved to cook for others. His roast beef cooked on the grill was one of his signature creations. He was the loving husband to his wife Marjorie for 52 years. He adored his children and grandchildren and in his eyes they “Could Do No Wrong”. He was always making sure everyone was taken care of and throughout his illness his first concern was that of his wife, children, and grandchildren.
Frank was the beloved husband of Marjorie A. (Smith) Cimmino. He was the loving father of Joanne Ames of Billerica, James Cimmino of Burlington, Catherine Gately of Burlington, and Susan Leydon & her husband Peter of Woburn. He was the oldest brother of Alfred of Revere, Robert of Peabody, Anthony of FL, Anita Marrama of Woburn, Theresa of Woburn, the late Joseph and Louis Cimmino.
