Obituary of Carolann Smathers

Carolann (Marzeoti) Smathers, a devoted wife and mother, passed away unexpectedly at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center on Sunday, September 13, 2020.  The beloved wife of Daniel E. Smathers, Carolann was 56 years old.

Carolann was born in Malden.  She was raised and educated in Burlington and a 1981 graduate of Burlington High School.   After high school, Carolann graduated from Somerville School of Nursing where she received her associate’s degree in nursing.  She worked as an RN at Lahey Hospital in Burlington for over 20 years.  With her compassionate and caring nature, being a nurse was the perfect role for Carolann.   Shortly after the birth of her first son, she decided to start working for her family’s HVAC business and continued in that field until her passing.  For the past five years, Carolann worked at Grinnell Mechanical as a service dispatcher.   Once again, this was a perfect role for Carolann.  She had a great rapport with all of the servicemen she worked with.  Many of them considered her their second mother and would confide in her, and some of them would even call her “Ma.” 

Carolann and her husband Dan were married for 29 years.  After their marriage in 1991, they moved to Billerica where they raised their two children Ryan and Tyler.   Her greatest joy was being a mom.    She was loving and supportive.  Carolann never missed any of their events and was always there cheering them on.     

Carolann loved the serenity of the ocean and loved spending the day at the beach.   She always looked forward to her annual trips to Fort Myers, Florida, with her sister Susan to visit her mom and dad.  Carolann’s sudden death leaves her family with a huge void, but she leaves them with countless memories that will be in their hearts forever.

Carolann was the beloved wife of Daniel E.  Proud and loving mother of Ryan D. & Tyler E. of Billerica.  Loving daughter of Frank & Catherine (Croce) Marzeoti of Burlington.  Sister of Susan Romano & her husband Kyle of Burlington and the late Robert F. Marzeoti & his fiancée Sandy Miserendino of Tewksbury.    Aunt of Nick & Noelle Romano and Justin, Kyle & Cara Marzeoti.   She will be sorely missed by her faithful and spunky dog, Sammy.

         Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Wednesday, Sept. 16 from 5-7 p.m.  Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend.
