Obituary of Iride Boeri

Iride (Palmacci) Boeri passed away peacefully on Wednesday morning, September 23, 2020 at the age of 98 years old.  Iride was born in Cambridge; she was one of 6 children born to Italian immigrants, Ernesto and Elisa Palmacci.  She grew up and was educated in Somerville.  Her home growing up was a little bit of Italy. She married her husband, Charles Boeri, and they started their life together living in Somerville.  They had 3 sons whom they raised in Somerville and then Woburn.  Iride’s life revolved around her husband, sons, and later her grandchildren.

Similar to her childhood home, Iride’s home was filled with Italian traditions, values, and customs.  Iride ran the home, took care of the yard, and spent endless hours in her favorite part of her house, the kitchen.  She was a fantastic cook and believed that food was the pathway to the heart.  Food brought family together around the dining room table, it was something to be appreciated and relished, and it was a way of expressing love. She welcomed her guests and immediately asked if they were hungry.  Even if someone said “no”, she would insist they take a seat at the table and have just have a little something to eat.  It would surprise new guests when they discovered that what they thought was a meal, was just the first of many courses to be served.  She would be adamant that as her family and guests said their goodbyes that they had to take a doggy bag in case they got hungry later.  She always cooked your favorite dish whenever she knew you were coming.  She insisted on hosting Christmas dinner until the age of 95.  For most, retirement started around age 60.  For Iride, it was when she went back to work in the bakery department of Star Market in Woburn.  Because she did not drive, she often walked to work. She loved the interaction she shared with the bakers, her coworkers, and the customers.  She retired at the age of 86.

Iride’s life revolved around taking care of and being with her family.  She was the loving wife of 60 years of the late Charles J. Boeri.  She was so proud of her 3 sons, Charles, David, and the late Richard Boeri.  Her daughter-in-laws, Sharon and Audrey, were the daughters she never had.  She was the devoted sister of Gino Palmacci & his late wife Mary of Belmont, Ernest Palmacci & his wife Patricia of Somerville, the late Libby Palmacci & his late wife Geraldine, the late Araldo Palmacci & his late wife Mary, the late Charles Palmacci who was killed in action during World War II.  She was the doting grandmother of Tanya Boeri-Normant & her husband Jeff Normant, Nicole Boeri, Michael Boeri & his fiancé Francesca Varriano, Jonathan Boeri & his wife Michaela, and Lauren Boeri.

There will be a private visitation for family and invited guests held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Saturday, September 26 from 3-5 p.m.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Iride’s name may be made to People Helping People, P.O.
