Obituary of Elizabeth Joan Breen
Elizabeth Joan “Betty” (Marobella) Breen passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice House on Tuesday morning, November 17, 2020. The beloved wife of the late William A. “Bill” Breen, she was 85 years old.
Betty was born in the family home in Belmont. She was one of five daughters born to the late Paul and Nellie Marobella. Betty was raised in Belmont and Bedford and was a graduate of Concord High School. Betty and Bill would meet while they were both working at MIT Lincoln Lab. They married in 1956 and moved to Burlington in 1957 where they would raise their family. Betty was an avid quilter. Her quilts were made with love and flawless perfection. Betty made quilts for every occasion; new grandchildren, high school graduations and every special moment in her families lives. She made lap quilts and wheelchair quilts for residents of the Bedford V. A. Betty was a longtime and active member of the Burlington Quilters Guild. She participated in many of their events and proudly displayed her quilts at their shows. Betty was also a talented seamstress and made many of her daughter’s wedding and bridesmaids dresses.
Bill and Betty were very active members of the Red Hot Squares Dancing Club. They had many years of fun dancing, socializing, attending weekend dance trips, and hosting clambakes. They also enjoyed traveling together and took several cruises as well as a memorable trip to Ireland. Betty was very supportive of her husband Bills dedication to the Burlington Knights of Columbus and participated in many of the activities with him.
Betty enjoyed gardening and decorating her home for all the holidays. She was a supportive mother to her seven children. She never missed any of their events growing up and in recent years she was there to cheer on her grandchildren and great grandchildren in all their activities and milestones in their lives.
Betty was the beloved wife of the late William A. Breen. She was the loving mother of Karen Moroney & her husband Mark of Medway, Bill of Burlington, Barbara O’Sullivan of FL, Sandy Mackey & her husband Paul of Billerica, Cathy Crannell & her husband Jon of Wilmington, Diane Murphy & her husband John of Burlington, and Donna Joyce & her husband Thomas of Burlington. Proud grandmother of Brian & Kevin Moroney, Bill Breen, Nicole Jalbert, Courtney Martek, D. J. O’Sullivan, Paul & Patrick Mackey, Elizabeth & Emily Crannell, John, Erin, Bridget, & Molly Murphy and Sheila, Kelly & Shannon Joyce. Betty is also survived by 8 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. Sister of Marilyn Stone of Bedford and the late Eleanor Opdycke, Pauline McKearin, and Elaine Cameron. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Margaret Church of St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn St., Burlington on Friday, November 20th at 12:30 p.m. Private Burial to follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, BURLINGTON. In lieu of flowers memorials in Betty’s name may be made to Alzheimer’s Association, MA Chapter, 309 Waverly Oaks Road, Waltham, MA 02452.
