Obituary of Thomas Gallagher
Thomas R. Gallagher, a retired New England Telephone employee, passed away after a long illness on Wednesday night, January 16, 2013. He was 83 years old. Tom was born in Boston, the son of the late Thomas and Mary Gallagher. He grew up in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School. He excelled at baseball and was drafted by the New York Yankees. He pitched for the Yankees farm team for a number of years. He never lost the love of baseball. He taught his son the game and was an assistant baseball coach at Noble and Greenough School in Dedham for many years. Despite being drafted by the Yankees, he always remained true to his Boston roots as a faithful Red Sox Fan.
Tom had worked for over 35 years as an installer and repairman for New England Telephone and A T & T. He was an avid golfer. He enjoyed reading and following all the Boston Sports teams. He and his family enjoyed many years of vacationing at their home in West Yarmouth. They also enjoyed traveling. He spent the past 49 years living in Woburn.
Tom was the beloved husband of 50 years of Eleanor (Scollans). Loving father of Thomas J. of Stoneham and Maura Hutchinson & her husband Kenneth of Billerica. Brother of the late Robert Gallagher and Ruth Negrini. Loving grandfather of Julia and Erica Hutchinson. Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (exit 34 off Rt. 128/95) Woburn side) on Saturday, Jan. 19 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Charles Church, 280 Main St., Woburn at 11:30 a.m. Interment in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.
