Maria M. (Raymundo) Raposo passed away at the Newton Wellesley Hospital on Saturday, January 1, 2021.  The beloved wife of Josefredo “Joe” Raposo, she was 83 years old.

Maria was born, raised, and educated in Sao Paulo Brazil. She was one of 9 children born to the late Casemiro and Isabel Raymundo.     Maria would meet her future husband Joe while working together in Sao Paulo. They married in 1961 and came to the United States in 1963. When she came to the United States they settled in Cambridge.  It was very a very brave move for Maria and Joe as neither one of them spoke English at the time.

Maria and Joe both worked hard to provide for their family.  She worked as an Assembler for General Scanning in Watertown for over 20 years and worked as a Nurses Aid for the Sisters of the Poor.   In 1972 Maria and Joe moved to Somerville and then to Stoneham.  They lived in Wareham for over 17 years.

Maria created a warming and loving home for her family.  She was an amazing cook and had many Brazilian and Portuguese specialties that she made.  Maria and Joe enjoyed their retirement years. They would spend their winters in Flagler Beach Florida. Their townhouse was right near the beach and they loved spending time at the ocean.  Maria adored her 4 grandchildren and was devoted to them.   Nothing brought Maria more happiness then spending time with her grandchildren whether it was a summer vacation, holiday gathering or a weekend visit with their “VoVo.”   Maria will be remembered for her love and devotion to her husband, her children and her grandchildren.

Maria was the beloved wife of Josefredo “Joe”.  She was the loving mother of Robert & his wife Suzanne of Burlington, Edward & his wife Janet of Dedham and the late Sandra. Proud grandmother of Colin, Christina, Natalie & Maren Raposo.  Sister of Elvira Raymundo of Brazil and the late Augustinho, Ivo, Olindo, Antonio, Camillo, Orlando, & Sophia Raymundo.  Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Tuesday, Jan. 5 from 5:30 p.m. – 7 p.m.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Malachy Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronica.org, 99 Bedford St., Burlington on Wednesday, Jan 6 at 10 a.m.  Burial will follow in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Tihonet Road, Wareham at 1 p.m.  For directions, obituary, online guestbook, memorial video, and live-stream of the Mass see www.sullivanfuneralhome.net.
