Obituary of Barry Alan Lyons
Barry Alan Lyons, 55, passed away January 31, 2021.
Barry was born in Boston, Massachusetts the 5th of five children. He grew up in Burlington, Massachusetts where he graduated from high school. His travels would bring him to Tucson AZ, where he began his 20-year career with Lear Jet. His job would later bring him to Wichita, KS where he spent the last 16 years of his life. During his time at Lear Jet, he became a treasured member of their family.
Barry was an incredible animal lover, having cared for up to seven cats at once. He would always help homeless animals, building outdoor houses for them and ensuring they were always warm and fed. Barry also loved bicycling. He and many friends would take riding trips that would bring him to Colorado and other states. Barry always enjoyed his trips back to the Boston area spending time with family and friends, where just last Labor Day he enjoyed a large family-fishing trip. In 2020, Barry was diagnosed with Leukemia and amazed his doctors that he would bike over 25 miles a day while receiving chemotherapy treatments. He fought like a true warrior to the end of his life even after having contracted pneumonia from Covid, which quickly took his life in 12 days, just four days after his 55th birthday.
Barry was pre-deceased by his beloved parents, Herbert F. Lyons, Jr. and Ruby L. Lyons (Lovelace). He is survived and will always be cherished by his sister Janice and her husband Bill Pepler of Scottsdale AZ, his sister Cheryl Lyons of Daytona FL, his brother Mitch Lyons of Methuen MA, and his sister Gail and her husband Kevin Coneeny of Tewksbury, MA. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and dearest friends in Wichita and Burlington, MA.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Barry’s name to the Kansas Humane Society, 3313 N Hillside, Wichita, KS 67219.
A visitation will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Saturday, February 20th from 1 p.m. – 3 p.m. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend.
