Obituary of Marguerite Hanley
Marguerite E. Hanley, a resident of Burlington of 52 years passed away after a long illness on Sunday evening, January 27, 2013. She was 86 years old.
Marguerite was born in Malden the daughter of Irish immigrants, the late Edward and Margaret Lawlor. She grew up in Malden and was a graduate of Malden High School. She then went to Secretarial School. She married in 1949 and settled in Burlington in 1961. She was a homemaker first and then went out to work first at the Almy’s Department Store and then as the switchboard operator for the Burlington Public Schools.
Marguerite was always a lady first. She was polite, classy, and always looked for the best in everyone she met. She was always pleasant and appreciated whatever kind gesture a friend or associate might offer. She was patient, tolerant, and thankful. She had great taste and appreciated a well dressed person. She loved to shop and loved a great deal. Even in her finals days, she would find warm compliments on a visitor’s attire. She was a member of the Emerald Club in the Billerica Elks. She supported and enjoyed her husband’s involvement in the Burlington Knights of Columbus. She enjoyed going to Bingo with friends. Friday night were always spent at the Hilltop Restaurant. She loved her yearly vacations to Aruba. Marguerite was a wonderful role model for her children and grandchildren. If we all could embrace Marguerite’s fine qualities, the world would be a better place.
Marguerite was the beloved wife of 63 years of the late John J. Hanley. She was the loving mother of William & his wife Debbie, Karen Carlson & her husband Thomas, John & his wife Maria all of Burlington and Kevin & his wife Linda of Nashua, NH. She was predeceased by her siblings; Edward Lawlor, Rita Edwards and Dorothy Furbee. She was the proud grandmother of Lisa DeRochers of Billerica, Dina Doris Hanley of Medford, Jarrod Hanley, Thomas Carlson, Sheila Nobrega all of Burlington, John Paul Carlson of Dracut, Robert Hanley of Billerica and John Joseph Hanley of Derry, NH. She was the Great Grandmother of James and Julia DeRochers, Ava & Evan Nobrega and Thomas Carlson.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Thursday, Jan. 31 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Wednesday from 4-8 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
