Obituary of Shirley A. Harrington
Shirley Harrington, a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away after a long illness on Friday morning, February 1, 2013. She was 83 years old. Shirley was born in Cambridge the daughter of the late Ernest and Catherine Grimes. She grew up in Watertown and Waltham and was a 1947 graduate of Waltham High School. She went to work at Robinson’s Insurance Company and married Donald “Ed” Harrington. In 1955 they purchased land in the Winnmere section of Burlington and Ed built their home. She would work as a clerk in the Burlington Mall and at Tom Irwin Golf Supply, but her main career was that of homemaker. She made a loving and caring home for her family. Family vacations were very important to Shirley and her family. For many years, summers were spent at their camp in Fitzwilliam, NH and winters in St. Augustine, Florida. In May of 2012, she moved from her house of 55 years to Sunrise of Burlington. The welcoming staff and residents made the transition very pleasurable. Shirley enjoyed all the activities Sunrise offered especially Bingo and trivia. Shirley and her family will be eternally grateful for the warmth and kindness the Sunrise family bestowed upon her.
Shirley was the beloved wife of the late Donald “Ed” Harrington. She was the loving mother of Paul E. Harrington of Burlington, Daniel E. Harrington of Lowell and Janet M. Burke of Bedford, NH. She was the sister of the late Paul Grimes. She was the sister-in-law of Jean & Paul Boudreau of Tilton, NH, Claire & Charles Strong of ME & FL, and the late John & Catherine Harrington and Bernard & Margaret Harrington. She was the loving “Grandma” of Holly Burke and Patrick Burke both of Bedford, NH. She was the lifelong friend of Phyllis Linehan of Burlington.
Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128, Woburn side) on Monday, Feb. 4 at 9 a.m. Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 p.m. Interment in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.
