Obituary of Joan Agnes Brown

Joan Agnes (Brogna) Brown, a woman devoted to her family, passed away unexpectedly at Massachusetts General Hospital on Thursday morning, July 22, 2021.  The beloved wife of the late Walter Thomas Brown, she was 84 years old.

Joan was born in Woburn. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Agnes Brogna. She was raised in the Winmere section of Burlington in a home filled with family traditions, love, and laughter!   Joan would marry Walter Brown on August 25, 1965. They settled in Revere where they would raise their family.   Joan, Walter and their two children spent many weekends at Joan’s mom’s home in Burlington where their children enjoyed spending time with their cousins and became a close family unit.

Joan’s family was her life.  She was incredibly proud of her two children, Joanie, and Mark.    Joan’s greatest joy was spending time with her two grandchildren Robbie and Sydney.    She helped to care for her grandchildren when they were younger while their mom, Joanie, was working.  She enjoyed taking them for walks around the neighborhood and visits to the local store for a “treat”.  In later years Robbie and Sydney would dote on their grandmother and there wasn’t anything they wouldn’t do for her.   Joan will be remembered as a sweet, caring, quiet woman whose greatest love was her family.

Joan was the beloved wife of the late Walter Thomas Brown.  She was the loving mother of Joan Papandrea & her husband Robert of Billerica and Mark Brown of Saugus.  She was the proud grandmother of Robert and Sydney Papandrea.  Joan was the loving sister of Norma Taflas of Haverhill and the late Louise Carbone, Joseph Brogna and Brenda Sweeny.  Joan is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.  Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON (Exit 34 off Rt. 128/95 Woburn side) on Monday, July 26 from 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Margaret’s Church, at St. Veronica Parish,www.stveronicama.org, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon.  Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Winchester.  In lieu of flowers memorials in Joan’s name may be made to Council on Elder Affairs, 25 Winthrop Ave, Revere, MA 02151
