Obituary of Constance P. Duggan
Connie (Barratt) Duggan, passed away at her home, with her husband by her side, on Saturday evening, August 21, 2021. Connie was born, raised, and educated in Malden. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Conghetta Barratt. It was while out sledding on a cold winter day that Connie would meet her future husband, Jim Duggan. It was love at first sight for both. At the age of 19, Connie married Jim! They lived in Malden for a few years before moving to Burlington in 1968, where they would both become fixtures in the community.
Connie worked as a Lunch Lady at the Burlington High School for 10 years. At the age of 40, Connie went back to school to obtain her hairdressing license and fulfilled her dream of becoming a hairdresser! It was a proud moment for the entire Duggan family as Connie stood on stage to receive her certificate. Connie worked out of her home as a hairdresser. For an hour, her clients enjoyed a glass of wine and a little bit of town chatter as they had their hair done. Connie donated her services to the senior citizens at the Malden Senior Elderly Housing where her mother lived. That was the type of woman Connie was, always thinking of others.
Connie was a loving and supportive mother to her two sons Michael and Jim. As a family, they enjoyed camping and taking day trips to local attractions and amusement parks. In 2009, Connie and Jim moved to Birchcrest in Burlington. Connie loved her home at Birchcrest, and her neighbors became like members of her family. Connie was a social person with an outgoing personality that thrived on being with people. If there was a social at Birchcrest, Connie and Jim would be there. She could be found in the recreation center playing cards, bingo, mahjong, or just enjoying time with her friends.
Connie and Jim had a wonderful life together. They would have celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in October. They were always together – if you saw one then you saw the other. They supported each other and lovingly cared for each other throughout their life together.
Connie was the beloved wife of James Duggan. She was the loving mother of James & his wife Christine of Fort Myers, FL and the late Michael “Nipper”. Proud grandmother of Jennifer Cassanos, Connor & Marissa Duggan. Great Grandmother of Kaitlyn Cassanos. Sister of Grace Carr of FL. Mother-in-law of Mary Duggan of WI.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held in St. Margaret’s Church, in St. Veronica Parish www.stveronicama.org, on Saturday, Aug. 28 at 10am. Relatives & friends respectfully invited to attend. A celebration of Connie’s life will be held immediately following the Mass at the American Legion, 162 Winn St., Burlington.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Connie’s name may be made to the Tower Hill Tenant Association, 15 Birchcrest St., Burlington, MA 01803
