Obituary of Marguerite Skehan

Marguerite “Marge” (Mahoney) Skehan, a woman devoted to her family and her faith, passed away at the Sawtelle Family Hospice House in Reading, on Sunday evening, September 12, 2021.  The beloved wife of the late John J. Skehan, she was 89 years old.

Marge was born in Boston She was one of four children born to the late Theresa & Timothy Mahoney.  She was raised and educated in East Boston. She would marry her husband John in 1964 and move to Burlington where they would raise their family.

Marge’s life revolved around her family and her faith. She was a loving and supportive mother and grandmother.   Raising five sons she learned to have an interest in sports. She never missed any of their sporting events and was a Red Sox and Patriot Fan.  As a family they looked forward to their summer vacations at Weirs Beach in Lake Winnipesaukee.  Her grandchildren brought her great joy and she always looked forward to their visits.  Marge had one daughter, Mary, who was born with special needs.  Marge was totally devoted to Mary, showered her with love and wonderful care. She was able to keep Mary home until her late teens.  Marge made sure that Mary came home every weekend to be with her family and this is a tradition that her sons will continue in memory of their mom. 

Marge was a longtime member of St. Margaret’s Church in Burlington. She attended Mass daily and volunteered with Heartbeat.   Her faith was an important part of her life and saying the rosary was part of her daily routine.    Marge will be remembered for her kind and generous spirit.

Marge was the beloved wife of the late John J. Skehan.  She was the loving mother of John Jr.  of Gilmanton Ironworks, NH, Gregory & his wife Sherry of Burlington, James of Reading, Richard of Burlington, Mary of Billerica, and Charles of Burlington.  Proud grandmother of Caitlyn, John, Joseph, Brianna, Marissa, Gregory Jr., Christopher, Brooke & Jake Skehan. Sister of Frances Mahoney of Quincy, Mary Rochon of Quincy, and the late Joseph Mahoney.  Mother-in-law of Maureen Skehan.   Funeral from the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., BURLINGTON on Saturday, Sept. 18 at 11 a.m.   Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret’s Church, in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronicama.org, 111 Winn St., Burlington at Noon.  Burial to follow in Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.  There will be a police walk-through for all current and retired members of the Burlington Police Force on Friday, Sept. 17 at 4:15 p.m.  A public visitation will be held from 5-8 p.m.    Memorials in Marge’s name may be made to St.  Veronica Parish, 111 Winn St., Burlington, MA 01803.
