Obituary of David L. Churchwell

David L. Churchwell, age 76, of Newburyport, MA, passed away on September 26, 2021.

 

He leaves behind his son George Barton Churchwell and fiancé Kaitlyn L. Bishop of Salisbury, MA, as well as his son Alexander Churchwell Wood of Ann Arbor, Michigan. In addition he leaves behind his nephew Damon Churchwell and his sister-in-law Kiyoko Churchwell, wife to his late brother George B. Churchwell.

 

Born September 10, 1945 in Brookline, MA, to parents MayBelle (Maloon) and George B. Churchwell. David spent most of his life in New England. He received his Bachelor’s Degree from Northeastern University and his Masters from Fitchburg State University.  He spent his early career teaching Special Education throughout the Northeast. He was an organized teacher who was invested in helping students with emotional and behavioral challenges as well as developing coping strategies. In addition to teaching academics, David was also a vocational teacher for learning impaired students. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Air Force and a published author. His lifelong love of History and Genealogy lead to his writing of the book, “Mrs. Ethel Nott’s Moral Dilemma”.  After teaching in Jackson Public Schools in Jackson, Michigan for 7 years, Mr. Churchwell eventually retired to Fairfield, Illinois.

 

Early in his retirement he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. During his decade long struggle with the disease, he moved back to the Boston area. The family would like to thank all of the nurses and doctors who fought alongside David over the years.
