Peter and Anne, thank you for your kindness in letting me know of your mother's death.
She and your Dad were very special friends, your Dad's friendship going back to New Hampton School.
We became close aT Bates through the outing club and continued a wonderful relationship during their lives.
They met us at Kathadin during our honeymoon, and continued
the relationship with visits to Moosehead Lake and Chebeage
Island.
Your Mom and Berit were close friends and Marianne was most kind and supporting when Berit died three years ago.
My heartfelt sympathy to you all. You are in my thoughts, as she will always be in my memory.
warmest regards;
Reid

Dear family of Marianne;
We were so very saddened to read your mother/grandmother's obituary in the Portland paper this morning. To say that we will miss her is definitely an understatement. We were sincerly hoping that she would once again "beat" this and be back in her garden and island this summer. She was a wonderful friend and a super wonderful person. It was an honor to be her friend...and friend of your Dad's as well. Blessings on you all, and although we know you will miss her terribly, may our Lord help you through this most difficult time.
With our deepest sympathy.
Ginnie and Don, Bates College friends.

To Marianne's family,
As a fellow member and officer of our Bates Class of 1955, I have known Marianne a long time. During the last several years we have worked together for Bates, mostly by email.
I extend sympathies to all of you from her Bates Class who were so appreciative of her service as class secretary. We will all miss her and her many talents. Lynn, Bates '54, classmate of Dick, and my husband, and I will keep all of you in our prayers.

It is with great sadness to learn of Marianne's passing. Even this day I sent an E-mail to her.
Though many years removed from Burlington residence, it was always a pleasurable contact. As her ViceChairman on the Town Committee and as Selectman and in the Jaycees, she was a rock for my support. Memories abound for those productive years with Marianne and Dick.
To Anne, Joan, Peter and their families, we share your loss. God bless you and the memory of wonderful parents.

I am deeply saddened at the loss of a great mentor and wonderful woman who generously shared her time with those who looked to her for guidance and encouragement.
Marianne never said "no" when asked if I could stop by her home for coffee and to "pick her brain" on political issues, and willingly and enthusiastically endorsed my in my campaigns for the State Senate.
She was a strong woman, with firm convictions and gentle advice. She will be missed more than words can express.
Lovingly,
Sandi Martinez
