Obituary of Dorothy F. Pergamo

Dorothy F. (Doyle) Pergamo, a 62-year resident of Burlington, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021.  She was 89 years old.  Dorothy was born in Cambridge.  She was one of nine children born to the late Donald and Honorine Doyle.  She grew up in a modest family home on Garden Street in Cambridge, which was located in the Harvard Square section of the city. She was a graduate of Cambridge Latin High School.  She met her husband John in 1950 and they settled in Burlington in 1959.  Her principle role in life was that of wife, mother, sister, grandmother, and care giver to all.  She also worked as an assembler at Solid State Scientifice and as a travel agent for Starlight Tours. Working as a travel agent was as much fun as it was a job. She organized and chaperoned bus trips in and around New England, New York City, and as far as Atlantic City New Jersey.  She passed the time on the bus with her guests playing games like Bingo and kept all their travel plans including dinners, hotels, and departure times in check.

Dorothy was a loving and supportive mother.  Everyone was always welcome to her home.  She was nonjudgmental and her favorite phrase was “you got to let it go!"  She was so proud of her three grandchildren; Brittany, T. J., and Ashley.  Nothing gave her greater joy then attending their concerts, sporting events and all the milestones in their lives.

Dorothy was never one to sit idly by.  She always had some sort of craft project in the works.  She made Christmas ornaments, did ceramics, and needle point.  Her specialty was her hand-made dolls that she made with great attention to detail. Dorothy had a collection of over 100 dolls that she made that she loved to gift to her children, grandchildren, and other important peoplein her life.  Being the true Bostanian that she was, Dorothy was a die-hard Bruins fan.  Dorothy and her husband had season tickets during the era of Bobby Orr and were present when Bobby Orr scored that most iconic goal in the 1970 playoff game.

The last 10 years of her life, with the help of her children, Dorothy did not slow down one bit!  She still enjoyed her walks around Horn Pond and getting together with her friends at Dunkin Donuts. Dorothy will be remembered as a strong and independent woman who always had a smile on her face.

Dorothy was the beloved wife of the late John F. Pergamo.  She was the loving mother of John & his wife Martha of Burlington, Daniel & his wife Sharon of FL, Glenn & his wife Lisa of Burlington and Sharon Ralph & her husband Tim of Burlington.  Proud grandmother of Brittany Ralph, T. J. Ralph, and Ashley Pergamo.   Sister of Evelyn Ferrandini, Sheila Timmons and the late Barbara Hutcheon, Mildred Barlett, James Doyle, Donald Doyle, Edward Doyle, and Thomas Doyle.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Wednesday, Dec. 8 from 5 – 7pm.  Funeral Services will be at the Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 11am.  Services will conclude with burial in Chestnut Hill Cemetery.
