Obituary of James Gorman Gochis

James Gorman Gochis, owner of J. Gorman Carpet, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, December 17, 2021 at the age of 61 years old.  James was known by so many names over the years including “Gorman”, “Jimmy”, “Jim”, “Jimbo”, and his favorite “Pa”.  He was a lifelong resident of Burlington, graduating with the class of 1978.  Following Burlington High School, he attended Norwich and Northeastern Universities.

Jim owned and operated J. Gorman Carpet for over 30 years and had a wonderful way of dealing with his customers and a strong work ethic. His most memorable trait though was his sense of humor. He made friends everywhere he went and would often go out of his way to make others laugh. Jim was never one to pretend to be anyone other than himself and what you saw was what you got with him. He loved Hawaiian shirts and wore whatever he wanted whenever he wanted.

Jim’s favorite place in the world was driving his Sea Ray on Winnipesaukee and enjoying as many adventures as possible with his family. Jim was always up for a day of water-skiing, fishing, boating, or skiing in the White Mountains. He loved friendly competition and was always ready for a game, match, or adventure, whether it be golfing with his father, brothers, sons and nephews or Jeopardy at home.

Gorman, as he was known by his oldest friends, was an accomplished drummer and loved blasting 80’s music while playing along.  Any political discussion would bring out the Greek in him and he would let you know how he felt with a few

Greek curses. An avid sports fan, Jim loved the Bruins and Patriots and always looked forward to football Sundays at his dads’ house.  He was quite proud of his cooking and was always trying to one-up his dad in the kitchen.  He loved animals particularly his German Shepherds, Kato, Sasha, and Tanya. He was one of a kind and has left his children, siblings, nieces, nephews, and friends with many countless stories and memories that will always bring smiles to their faces.

James was the loving dad of Kristina Young & her husband Michael of Billerica, James & his fiancé, Kristina Giacoppo of Burlington, Ryan of Woburn, and Stefan of South Boston. He was the son of the late William Gochis and the late Joan Doherty. He was the brother of Michelle Gochis Whitney & her husband Donald of Hudson, NH, William Gochis Jr. & his wife Sandra of Hubbardston, Mary Vaillancourt & her husband Ray of Dracut, and Thomas Gochis & his wife Holly of Burlington.  He was the former husband and still close friend of Deborah Cunningham of Stoneham. He was the proud “Pa” to his grandchildren Savannah, Benjamin, and James. He loved being an uncle to his nieces and nephews.  He also leaves behind his beloved dog Sasha. Jimmy was a loving and caring man.

Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V. Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Wednesday, Dec. 22 from 4-7 p.m. Funeral from the Sullivan Funeral Home on Thursday, Dec. 23 at 9 a.m. Followed by Mass of Christian Burial at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m. Masks will be required at church.
