Obituary of Rosemarie A Gulla

Rosemarie A. (Avery-Simmons) Gulla, a retired Human Services Director, passed away after an extended illness at her home on Tuesday morning, December 21, 2021.  She was 77 years old.  Rosemarie was born in Everett. She was one of three daughters born to Raymond and Ruth Avery.  She grew up in Somerville and Reading and was a graduate of Reading High School.  She then went on to attend Merrimack College and Bentley University.  She had worked her last 16 years of her career at FISERV Solutions Incorporated as their Director of Human Resources. She loved her career, her colleagues, and helping others. Rosemarie loved history whether it was local, national, international, or family history.  She was a member of the Marco Island Historical Society and volunteered at Marco Island Historical Museum.  She was a member of the Avery Association in Groton CT.  She was tracing her family lineage to apply to become a Daughter of the American Revolution and during her investigation found that two of her descendants were on the Titanic.  She loved to travel all around the world to learn about other countries history and experience their culture and traditions.  She was an avid skier and traveled all over the United States and Europe to ski.  One of her most memorable ski adventures was skiing the Matterhorn in Switzerland.  Marco Island had a special place in her heart.  She wintered there for over 40 years.  She loved walking the beaches, going out to dinner with old friends, and just getting away from the cold and snow of New England winters.  She and her husband, John, met at a Bereavement support group and have been married for 13 years.  They enjoyed sharing their faith at the Lutheran Church of Redeemer in Woburn, going to museums, historical places, and going to large and small theaters to see plays and shows.  They completed each other lives bringing each other joy, adventure, friendship, and love.  She had a strong sisterly bond and was the fun and special aunt to nieces and nephew and great nieces and nephew.  Rosemarie touched the hearts of so many and her memory and spirit will live on through them.

Rosemarie was the beloved wife of John Gulla.    Stepmother of Tara Gulla of Summit, NJ and Megan Gulla Merrill & her husband Lee of Litchfield, NH.  Sister of Ruth Sproul & her husband Richard of Florida & Michigan and the late Dianne Avery.  Beloved aunt of Deborah Harkins & her husband Paul of GA, Jennifer Yanchula of MI and Tony Sproul & his wife Kate of MI.  Great aunt of Lindsay & Emily Harkins, Jessica McIntosh & Evan Sproul.    Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Thursday, Dec. 23 from 4-8 p.m.  Funeral from the Funeral Home on Friday, Dec. 24 at 9 a.m.  Followed by Funeral Services at the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer, 60 Forest Park Road, Woburn at 10 a.m.  www.redeemerwoburn.org  Memorials in Rosemarie’s name may be sent to Sophia Gordon Cancer Center at Lahey Hospital & Medical Center Gift Processing, Office of Philanthropy, 330 Brookline Ave (OV), Boston, MA 02215 www.giving.laheyhealth.org
