Obituary of Barbara Mae Chamberlain

Barbara Mae (Chaplin) Chamberlain (89) of Burlington, previously of Arlington, passed away on February 24, 2022, with family at her side.  Barbara was the daughter of Stoddard Emmons and Bernice Augusta (Choate) Chaplin, born May 14, 1932, in Malden, MA.  Barbara enjoyed the out of doors and would often be found planting, weeding, and cutting her hedges.  She loved to crochet, knit, sew, and especially her quilting. Barbara’s greatest love was her family, she was always there to encourage and cheer you on and enjoyed sharing the stories of your accomplishments. Barbara was extremely proud of her family’s involvement in the reenactments of historical events and portrayal of historic people.   She had a true passion for researching her family’s genealogy and acted as the family historian.  Barbara had a plethora of notebooks with pertinent and meaningful facts about all her family’s beginnings and their descendants.

Barbara became a member of The Daughters of The American Revolution, in the Menotomy Chapter, Arlington, MA.  She was a member of the Lexington and Col. Timothy Pickering Chapter, Salem MA.  Barbara was extremely proud of her family lineage in The United States, and the contributions they made in the founding, protecting, and supporting of this country.  The ship “John”, Choate Island, Chebacco, Essex, Ipswich and Rowley, MA were treasured by her.  She was excited to help support the D.A.R. organization’s values of promoting historic preservation, education, and the honoring of the patriots of the Revolutionary War.

Barbara was also a planner; she knew what she wanted and took the initiative to get it done right, “her way”.  She was like that. all the way to her final days.  Barbara will be lovingly remembered by all her family and friends.

Barbara was the beloved wife of Charles Rackliff “Bud” Chamberlain who passed in Sept. 1992.  She was the loving and cherished mother of Donna Lee Chamberlain of Burlington and Jodi Belinda Oberto & her husband John of Milton, NH.  She was the extremely proud grandmother of John Chamberlain Nichols & his wife Larissa Celeste “Lacey” (Sasgen) of Quincy, Olivia Chamberlain Oberto & Abigail Rose Oberto of Milton, NH.  She was the sister of James Malcolm Chaplin of Lancaster, predeceased by the late Marilynn Virginia Hezlitt, Bernice Mildred “Bunny” Hezlitt, and Stoddard Emmons Chaplin, Jr.   Barbara was the loving Aunt of Susan. Carol, Tommy, Bobby, Judy, Tracy, Tammy, Jeff, Jennie, Heath and Beth.  She loved her nieces and nephew’s families and was so proud to wear the title of Great Aunt.

 As per Barbara’s request, funeral services will be private at Chestnut Hill Cemetery in Burlington, MA. and Spring Street Cemetery in Essex MA.
