Rose I. Coneeny, a wife and mother devoted to her husband, family, friends and her faith, passed away after an extended illness on Saturday, March 19, 2022.  She was 87 years old.  Rose was born and raised in Somerville and the oldest of four children born to Henry “Harry” and Margaret (Heffernan) McLaughlin.  She was a graduate of Matignon High School and then attended Framingham State College.  She married Harold “Hal” Coneeny in 1956 and ultimately settled in Burlington where they raised their three children.

Rose’s life revolved around her family.  She was filled with patience, empathy, compassion, kindness, and love.  She was deep rooted in family traditions that would bring everyone together. Her devotion to others was shown by her many trips to Tucson to help her daughter whenever a new grandchild was born. She was happy to share in others joy and was just as quick to embrace those in need. The family home on Newfound Lake in New Hampshire was the gathering spot for her children, family, and friends prior to her retirement. Winters were spent skiing and summers were spent enjoying the lake. In 1992, Rose and Hal sold their NH and Burlington properties and retired to Harwich.  It became the new gathering spot for her growing family. Some of her greatest joys were attending the many sporting events and graduations of her 16 grandchildren. She also enjoyed a fun round of golf with her friends at Cranberry Valley Golf Course, attending BC Football games, being a member of the Garden Club of Harwich, and a volunteer at the Holy Trinity Thrift Shop.

Rose had a strong devotion to her Catholic Faith.  She was an active member of Saint Margaret’s Church in Burlington and then the Holy Trinity Church in Harwich. She was also involved in the Jr. Guild of the Catholic Charities for many years. She was a devoted wife to her husband Hal for 66 years. She will be remembered by her children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews for the unconditional love, generosity and support she gave each and every one of them. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered.

Rose was the beloved wife of Harold L. Coneeny.  She was the caring and loving mother and mother-in-law of Brian Coneeny & his wife Cindy of Nashua, NH, Mark Coneeny & his wife Sue of Andover, and Leanne Ethridge & her husband Dan of Pheonix, AZ. She was the sister of Agnes Doran & her husband Joe of Harwich, Peggy Bartlett & her husband David of FL, and the late Francis “Bud” McLaughlin & his late wife Joan.  Rose was the proud “Nana” to Erin Widell, Sarah Spurr, Kristen Torres, Emily Valencia, Hannah Snedeker, Megan, Jennifer, & Brett Coneeny, and Daniel, Maggie, Abby, Bridget, Meredith, Peter, Joseph & Luke Ethridge.  She is also survived by seven great grandchildren.

A Mass of Christian burial will be held at St. Margaret Church in St. Veronica Parish, www.stveronicama.org, 111 Winn St., Burlington on Thursday, March 24 at 10am. Services will conclude with a burial in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Burlington.

In lieu of flowers, memorials in Rose’s name may be made to the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Cape Cod & the Islands, www.emassbigs.org, 684 Main Street Suite 3, Hyannis, MA 02601.
