Obituary of Spiros Halikias

Spiros F. Halikias, beloved husband of Amalia (Xristopoulos) of Burlington, a man who embraced the simple pleasures in life passed away at the Lahey Hospital & Medical Center, with his loving family by his side, on Tuesday evening, March 29, 2022 at 76 years old.

Spiros was born, raised and educated in Athens, Greece. He married his wife Amalia and they raised their three beautiful daughters in Greece until moving to the United States.  The consummate entrepreneur, Spiros owned a taxi in Greece and after moving to the U.S. worked as a painter.  He loved his work, but his greatest love was providing a good life for his family with the opportunities that he was able to give them here in Massachusetts.  Spiros was a man who honored his Greek roots deep within his heart, and loved annual family vacations back to Petropouli, Greece, which he held in the highest regard. Spiros will be forever remembered by his family as a loving husband and father, as well as a practical joker; a man with a big warm smile and a laugh that was contagious to anyone who spent time with him.

Spiros was a passionate man who always found the excitement in anything he did. Whether it was taking his family on a vacation to Greece or something as simple as maintaining his perfectly manicured lawn or working on his cars or a visit to the casino to test his luck, he was a man who put his everything into any task he put his mind to. The most important part of his life was his family.  Spiros was known to give big warm hugs and dote on his children and grandchildren. He was extremely proud of the life he built with his cherished wife Amalia and relished being able to tell the story of how they started their lives together and of the love he has for his family to this day.

In addition to Amalia, Spiros was the loving father of Evanthia Loucopoulos & her husband Dimitrios of Arlington, Evdokia Drizos & her husband Nickolaos of Burlington and Theodora Zanakos & her husband Bobby of Dracut.  He was the doting grandfather of George, Christos, Eleni, and Spiro Drizos, Amalia Dorfman, Costa Loucopoulos and Emily, Peter, and Spiros Zanakos.  A memorial visitation will be held at St. Athanasius the Great Greek Orthodox Church, 4 Appleton St., Arlington on Friday, April 1 from 12:30 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. with Funeral Services to follow at 1 p.m.  Graveside services will be held at Pine Haven Cemetery, Burlington.  In lieu of flowers, memorials in Spiros’ name may be made to the New England Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (www.lls.org/ne). Arrangements are under the direction of the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, Burlington.
