Obituary of Licia Amalia Firmani

Licia Amalia Firmani, passed away at the Lahey Hospital and Medical Center in Burlington on Thursday, July 7, 2022.  She was 63 years old. Licia was born in Broken Hill Australia, a frontier mining town in the far west of New South Wales, in the Australian outback.  When she was just 2 years old her family made the decision to move to the United States and in 1961, they took a journey by ship that took 44 days.  They lived in Malden before settling in Burlington.

Licia was a 1978 graduate of Burlington High School.  She went on to receive her bachelor’s and master’s degree from Suffolk University.  Licia had a career as a tax and financial consultant and an educator.  She was a “tax expert”.  Licia worked for the Federal Government and the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Licia enjoyed traveling to new places, meeting new and different people.   She appreciated good food and wasn’t afraid to try food from a variety of ethnic origins.   Licia and her family made many trips back to Italy to visit her dad’s family.  In 1991, as a family, they had memorable trip to Australia.  Licia also enjoyed taking trips throughout New England.   The Firmani family was a close-knit family.  Licia, her brother Peter and her parents Margret and Antonio lived together, supported each other and cared for each other during their health challenges throughout the years.  In 2014 Licia had some health issues and it was determined that she needed a kidney transplant.  Her father, mother and brother Peter, who was also her best friend, did everything in their power to find a kidney for her.  Unfortunately, that did not come soon enough, and Licia passed away on July 7.  Licia will be remembered as a kindhearted and happy woman whose greatest love was her family.

Licia was the beloved daughter of the late Margaret and Antonio Firmani.  Loving sister and best friend of Pietro “Peter” Firmani of Burlington.  Licia is also survived by many cousins in Australia, Italy and the United States.  Visiting hours will be held at the Edward V Sullivan Funeral Home, 43 Winn St., Burlington on Wednesday, July 13 from 6-8 p.m.  Funeral from the Funeral Home on Thursday, July 14 at 9 a.m.  Followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Veronica Parish, in St. Margaret’s Church, 111 Winn St., Burlington at 10 a.m.  Burial will be private.
